Jon Rothstein is saying ......
Cleveland State transfer Raheem Dunn tells me he's receiving interest from Arkansas, New Mexico, George Mason, New Mexico State, Iona, Hawaii, and Utah Valley. Recently visited Siena. Will visit St. John's August 1st. #SJUBB

I would think that only the schools getting a visit are in contention. At this point there are limited spots to fill and neither the players nor the schools want to pussyfoot around too much.

Siena and St Johns are the only two to watch right now.

Half the posters on the St. Johns boards don't even want him.

Half the posters on the St. Johns boards don't even want him. That’s why he’ll probably wind up there. I was just thinking about that kid we were so high on that chose Hawaii and how similar the situations are.

Looking at St Johns roster, I can't see him fitting in with all the high ranking guards they have. However the lure of going to a big school like that might sway his decision. The kid who went to Hawaii did have a similar situation but I personally believe that came down to playing time

If he goes to St. Johns, he won't be valued as much. It's a bigger school and the atmosphere is a lot different. At least we can sell an alternative experience.
I'm guessing he'd either start with Pickett and Carey or be, effectively, a 'starter' off the bench behind them. I'd imagine that he can fairly clearly see how he fits in here with what we have.

A Pickett/Dunn/Carey/Harris/Burns lineup could be something to see from an attack/finish/defense point of view. And they all should be 70%+ FT shooters. Siena could probably lead the league in FT's made.
With Camper/Ratliff/Sutherland/Friday behind them...you'd have to feel real confident that the bench production skyrockets over last year as well.
And then you'd still have King/Young/Tchougang/Hein for certain roles and Mahala/Darwiche at the end of the bench for filler.
If you don't land Dunn, you'd really need some in the last tier like King to step up..especially if someone above under performs or gets injured. Dunn could bring the whole thing together by minimizing the reliance on those guys. Then all you might even want is a few minutes of shooting from King.

I would start Manny and have Harris be 6th man but essentially 6 starters for Pt. I like how Manny rebounds and he could average 7-8 per game

If Harris can rebound at a similar level to Camper AND shoot the three, I'd rather have him out there with Dunn. Camper would play more when guys like Ratliff, Sutherland, and maybe King were on the floor...and there was still enough shooting. If Harris isn't the rebounder but can shoot, maybe Camper and Harris start, but then Dunn comes off the bench. I think you want 3 guards who can shoot out there at all times. Maybe Dunn has improved his shooting in the year off, and it makes it less important, who knows.

Wherever he goes he will finish his career there. Webster was an incoming frosh. The Hawaii angle helped too. What's the different from Loudonville or Queens? I think it feels much more similar to Gary Harris. He'd likely be buried at St. John's. At Siena Dunn is going to at least be guaranteed to be in the playing rotation.

Bored on Friday and playing with numbers...
Here's Dunn's potential numbers, based on simply career rates per minute to date, if he played 1,000 mins for us BUT replaced most of his 3's with 2's....next year. If he simply took around one 3 per game like Camper does..and mostly just drove...it could be like this:
GAMES ---33 MINS --- 1,000 MPG --- 30.30 PPG --- 16.2 RPG --- 5.4 FG% --- 44.4% (38.9% to date) 3pt % --- 25.5% (on 1 attempt per game) FT% --- 72.8% PPS --- 1.33 (1.16 career to date)
Asst --- 65 TO --- 62 Steals --- 47 Blks --- 2
Rather than minutes played, I estimated FTA based on the rate of FT's attempted per 2 pt attempt. He would end up taking over 230 FTs.

I know this was just an exercise in numbers- but I don’t see Dunn avg anywhere near 16 ppg for us. Hopefully Rasheem has a good , honest support system around him, if he does- he ends up at Siena. While he may play a bit at St John’s next year, year after he either doesn’t play or is run off. At Siena , Rasheem has to “buy” into team concept. At St Franny Dunn was primary scoring option, at Siena depending on matchups'he will be anywhere from 2nd to 4th option. Jalen is /will be the “man” at Siena and again that’s not to say Rasheem couldn’t lead us in scoring some games- but this team will go as far as Jalen , Don and Elijah can take us. If Rasheem can buy into that and "team" concept, he would be a MAAC plus level starter – a kid that can easily avg double figures for us
