I would think they should be turning to James Jones of Yale...…….not the spashiest/sexiest name, but guy is really solid...………..has won games in post season tourneys including NCAA...……….his teams like to spread the floor & shoot 3's...………...very well respected...……………... Jones may be last man standing on their list of candidates

Why can't anyone win there? They've dropped millions on coaches since Lou left and they've all failed. You'd think playing in NYC / the Garden and in the BE conference - that they'd be able to recruit well. They haven't been cheap on coaches. I just don't get it. Campus life. There is none. Makes UAlbany look like a Rainforest.

Sounds like Iona knows how to prepare a contract and lock down a coach it likes. Too bad their rent a player philosophy is only good enough to win the maac. Too bad your AD did not put a buyout clause in Fran's contract.

Too bad your AD did not put a buyout clause in Fran's contract. Not sure how much this had to do with Cluess's buyout, there's history at SJ's which was causing internal strife and a power struggle within where Cluess was wanted by some but not by others. Porter Moser just signed a contract extension through 2026 and you can bet that had a sizable buyout as well and yet SJ had no issue offering him the gig. Cluess finally did the right thing pulling out, SJ was starting to talk to everyone under the sun, pretty obvious he was on the outside looking in!

Why did Christian leave after one year for an A-10 perennial bottom feeder (4-14 conference record)? I think you know the answer. Cluess never (or did) had any doubts of where Iona's program is now or in the years ahead. Pretty good security .... I would say.

Actually there is a very good chance he could have stayed at Siena for 3 more years and scored a much bigger job. He chose to take the immediate payday rather than wait it out to score a really big job.

Congrats to Iona on keeping Cluess. Doesn't sound like it's the money just that they were not high on him for whatever reason. I really have no idea what happened with JC. I think family reasons played a role. The guy had never left the DMV area and one year out of it he ran back. Would have been like Cluess leaving NYC for a year and running back. Some guys just are meant for certain areas.

Hate to rag on them again, but St. John's has deteriorated into a laughingstock. Stay away, Paul Hewitt!
