Based on the fact that he just tweeted out 8 schools he can go to!!! He has a final 4. And 1 of those he may not even be visiting now. Siena and NJIT have been on him the longest. NJIT only averages 650 in attendance a game and plays most of its games far away as they're in the Atlantic Sun. It would be tough for his family to see any away games if they wanted. However, he would be closer to NYC if that's what he wanted. Gray is from Montrose, New York. I'd have to imagine it's Siena vs. Bonnies. Siena has the longer relationship but Bonnies have the A-10 etc. Siena is also the closest school of those 2 being only 2 hours away from home as compared to 5 hours. In addition to Siena being closer to his hometown than Bona for his family to come up and see him play; the MAAC has more fairly “local” teams that his family could also attend the away games (compared to the A-10). MAAC: Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Rider, SPU, Monmouth, Quinny, FF ate fairly close the Westchester. A-10: St Joe’s, Fordham, RI, LaSalle & UMass.

www.sbunfurled.com/post/mekhi-gray-and-quintin-metcalf-talk-bona-visitFF may have been moved up to this weekend. The answer to question 2 is hopefully where Siena can stand out somehow. I don't know what it's like now but when I was there Siena always had a great career center and good internship connections. I got 2 accounting jobs thru Siena plus a few interviews/offers set up with KPMG, Urbach, and PWC. Q: Our staff is very involved at Putnam, so how does Bona's ties to there influence your decision when you consider the the success of Osun and Kyle, and the successful recruitment of Justin Winston?
Gray: Well being that Osun and Kyle both came from Putnam, it shows me that there is a success in the coaching here and the transition to Bonas.
Q: What are your main priorities in evaluating a school/program?
Gray: A home feel. Somewhere I'll thrive and be able to be the best I can be on and off the court. A program where everyone is invested in making their players better and getting them to the next level. A school where I'll be set for a career after basketball. Connections with internships, and I highly spoke about the program because of the alums.
Q: Are you still planning on visiting Fairfield, and do you have an idea of when you're going to announce?
Gray: I am visiting Fairfield this weekend. And I am hoping to have my decision at some point next week.

Reading the above link doesn’t make me any more comfortable plus add in social media interactions. Not good. Pretty much all recruits say how important #2 is, that is until it’s not. Wish I could be more confident but if I’m betting it’s looking more like MG has his mind made up. Hope I’m really wrong with this one.

In addition to big 2021 target Malcolm Chimezie, we're also looking at a 2020 from Stepinac: Luke Fizulich. Has interest from Army. We haven't offered yet-- he's a 6-1 guard who is a major outside shooter but plays off the ball next to top-75 recruit RJ Davis.
Personally, wouldn't want to give a scholarship to this kid, but he'd be a hell of a PWO. Also, given Zagoria is definitely getting it from the Stepinac side, it may be a case of the Stepinac coaches trying to drive up interest for their kid. Harley is following the kid on Twitter though.

Yes but the flip side is if it's already Bona, why the visit to Fairfield this weekend? Why not just commit during the visit to Olean or soon thereafter? During this recruiting cycle, we've had 2 recruits cancel subsequent visits and commit to Siena. Isn't it often a situation where when you know, you know? I don't think this is a done deal deal yet, Siena's still in the game. Being far from home won't be an issue. The only question is whether he's okay being far from home in a location like Olean. All of us would be okay being far from home in a place like Florida - but places like North Dakota or Idaho? Not so much. It'll be something if SBU gets him. They just offered on 9/23. To swoop in and get him out from under us in less than 30 days of effort after all the time and work Siena put in would be some solid recruiting on Schmidt's part.

Hope I'm wrong but reading the tea leaves- I'd say Bona a heavy favorite for this kid. The Bonnie/ PSA connection very difficult to overcome. Either way we will be fine

However, in the end he’s going to choose Siena. 🤞

This could tilt it towards Fairfield, especially if he wants to work on Wall Street. Hope I'm wrong.

He may have a favorite, but he hasn't made the final decision yet. If he had, he's cancel the Fairfield visit and announce. Carm has beaten out bigger schools than Bonaventure. I like our chances here and still say it's going to come down to Siena or Bonaventure in his final two. Playing with former teammates is a big lure. But I don't care if my girlfriend was going there - I personally would not choose to spend 4 years in the boonies of western NY. What matters most to him is what will be the deciding factor and we have no idea what that is. Sometimes it's highest level, sometimes it's proximity to home, sometimes it's relationships. We shall see. If we don't get him, we don't get him and we move on. Plenty more athletic quality guards out there for 2020.

It would be nice to get Gray but Carm has already signed Harris, Carpenter, Golson and BK. I have no doubt he'll just move on to the next one. PT might be an issue for Gray too. If everything remains as is he probably would not play a ton as a frosh.

For a high schooler to get away from their parents for a weekend and hang out on a college campus is a great experience whether or not you truly have interest in the school.
