Fran was a homerun, Mitch was a lazy hire, and JP was a dumpster fire as advertised. If it is, indeed, the MSTM coach this time at a career.500 record, he is taking a big chance. Belien was the safe, smart, choice with pedigree and polish. Not impressed.

How was a D2 coach a safe, smart choice and the MSM coach with 2 NCAA's in 6 years at the D1 level is a big chance. Every coach has risk, but I implore everyone on this board to do some research into what JC was working with at The Mount before they judge his hire. They play 4-5 "buy games" a year (I believe the number was 29 over 6 years) that are basically guaranteed losses. They almost never get to play at home in the OOC, but when he plays at home he wins more than 75% of the time. He's consistently been in the top tier of the NEC despite losing players to up-transfers.
Would we think nearly as much of Pat Beilein if not for his last name?

To me JC's resume is reminiscent of Fran's.
Also, Not only did JC get to the tournament in year 2 he did it with his guys a few years later. That's more telling of his ability to recruit and develop players.

Re: your "D'Arg is 1 for 3" heading...........it's been mentioned on here a bunch of other times, but you must have missed it. D'Arg is not the one who recommended or hired Mitch or Jimmy. Those hires were made by Fr. Kevin Mullen. Yes, John was the AD, and nominally the "hirer", but the decisions to make both hires were made by Fr. Kevin.

I think hiring Fran and that run gets him a lifetime pass. Please be realistic.

D'Arg in no way, shape or form should be involved with the hiring of a new coach. The more I read about the crap Pastos was pulling with the team and realizing that D'Argenio had to be aware of it tells me he doesn't have the good Franciscan values Siena wants the VP/AD to possess. The "committee should handle it and D'Arg should be gone (retired) at the end of the spring semester.

D'Arg had his spotlight... his best days are behind him, time for him to retire and hand the reins over to a younger AD who can take Saints to their next round of Glory Days. Change is needed at Siena. Patsos was a good start, now time for John to do the right thing and say good bye.

There seems to be people involved who consider themselves closet GMs. They actually prefer a puppet AD. Must be nice to make all kinds of decisions and never have the shit wind up on your hands. Just watch everyone blame D'Arg.

Frankly, I want to know what is different this time hiring a HC than when Mitch or Jimmy were hired. D'Argenio said they would take their time this time, apparently the last 2 hire were rushed, lol. Wyland said on the radio that Siena is adamant about D1 Head coaching experience, so that cuts off a portion of potential candidates. Has Siena (whoever is making this decision) taken it off the table that next HC have a desire to stay at Siena and not chase a better job/money? That to me breeds complacency. College basketball is a game (the off the court) of hustling.
I understand they are trying to use the same formula that resulted in Siena landing Fran McCaffery, but let's be honest, that was 13 years ago. Just think about what in the world outside of college hoops has changed since then. I understand not losing the values that Siena has while getting a good coach to lead this program is the goal, but lets hope it's being done with 2018 practices/ideas.
I am getting worried were about to see another guy north of 45 whose best days are behind him that just LOVES Siena.

Siena as a program is 2 blips on the radar with long valleys like this one. You are probably due for another blip but there is nothing to suggest that Siena has ever as a program had any sustained success so not sure why you think it should be the rule. You are a small liberal arts school in financial distress...people outside of this fanbase including coaches and player handlers look at this board, read a post like this and say...as a fan-base

Go back to worshipping your soulless concrete university. There is no reason Siena can have sustained success like other mid majors have had.
