I had to share this simply because I thought I was having deja vu, but no I confirmed almost exactly one year apart the same pre-season story was told about Evan Fisher: From October 2016From October 2017www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Siena-forward-feels-like-a-new-Evan-12251047.phpI sincerely think Fisher will be a catalyst for this team's season this year, and the sophomore-to-junior year IS the season where underperforming MAAC bigs either "get it" and things click, or it just isn't going to happen. I am cautiously optimistic things will click for Big Fish this year.

One thing I just checked up on is that Fisher actually had a better defensive rebounding % per Kenpom than JO the last 2 years. It was in offensive rebounding where he was very, very bad. Perhaps a renewed commitment to staying in the paint instead of hovering on the perimeter will improve those numbers enough to make playing him a lot more minutes feasible.
Now JO was not a very good rebounder overall but perhaps Fisher can be at least a serviceable rebounder by just mostly ignoring the 3 pt line on offense and having a renewed focus on going after those offensive boards.
Fisher was supposed to be a decent to good rebounder coming out of HS and it's in this area that he's grossly under performed expectations.
He's probably never going to be a good defender overall but if he at least rebounds and scores inside, Siena could maybe get away with it given their tough guards and Oduro's help.
With Fisher's play in Canada somewhat suggesting this, there may actually be more hope than last year.

I have modest expectations for Fisher. If he can be an 8 and 5 guy I would be very happy. Anything more than that and I'm floored. There is reason to be cautiously optimistic he can contribute after seeing him during the trip to Montreal.
On the other hand Degnan was disappointing in Canada hopefully that is not the player we're getting this year. It is going to be big man by committee this year after having Brett/JO... expect a lot of four guard line-ups this year which in MAAC play and against bigger slower teams could be a match-up problem for the defense.

I’m sure there is a stat out there: number of rebounds per 3pt shots taken.

I’m sure there is a stat out there: number of rebounds per 3pt shots taken. His would be 1.2 last year. Bisping's would be 3.8. Wright was 0.9

How about if the guy turns out to be a 10 and 10 night in and night out. He is good enough to do that. He is an awful lot like Justin Miller. I have never even met him, and I am a hockey bum, so I don't know basketball finesse, but I know an athlete with a heart when I see one. I'd pick him for any team I was on.

I like Fisher and what he brings to the team and would love to see him develop into a legitimate presence on the interior for the Saints. But, I don't see much of a comparison with Justin Miller. That dude was as hard nosed a player as I remember the Saints having.

"Warriors", every day. Just play with all ya got, every game. Either you understand that or you don't. Tommy H Jr. might make it into that club too... keep your eyes open.

Every drop of sweat you have in your body better be on that ice, otherwise you don't belong here. Len Ceglarski, Coach, Clarkson, 1970. He was Herb Brooks before Herb Brooks was Herby. We saw how that turned out!

I'm pretty sure the 3-pt has left Evans playbook. He realizes the team needs him inside. I expect him to play 20 min a night, and if we can get 7 & 4 from him, I'd be ecstatic.

That’s what I expect as well. He’ll play the 5 for about 10-15 minutes a night when Prince comes out and get some minutes at the 4 when we go with 2 bigs. Shivers is gonna play the 4 a lot.

Didn't see this shared/posted elsewhere...although it's primarily about Sammy and THJR, thought the below quote was a little concerning...

2 words: Small. Ball. Welcome back Shivers and Camper. Saints may play a lot of small ball but my guess it will less out of design and more because the bigs will be foul prone. None of the 4 bigs are particularly experienced and several of them are quickness challenged. JP's teams tend to foul alot. We'll see lots of games where all of our bigs have 2 or 3 fouls in the first half. (I have never seen a good Big who didn't foul alot as a freshman. I expect Prince to be a guy who gets a lot of fouls called on him because of his size and physicality).

In my eyes, a slimmed down and focused Friday can do a lot of the same things as Oduro on D and on the boards while maybe making more of his FTs in the process. Fisher would be the more versatile scoring complement to them if healthy and playing like he did in Canada. Not sure Degnan gets in there much given how this preseason has gone. Shivers, Camper, and Heurter are probably the primary 4s at this point. The team's success or failure will largely come down to how effectively this team attacks the paint off the bounce and gets to the FT line.
