Did Siena air some of their home games on ESPN3 last season, or will they participate this year on the ESPN3 Platform? The MAAC has decided not to produce regular season games on ESPN3, but rather offer "5" wildcard games on ESPN U. Select MAAC institutions will produce additional games on ESPN3. Last season Monmouth,Iona, Canisius, and Fairfield broadcasted their home games on ESPN3. EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) 2017-18 men’s and women’s basketball television schedule features eight ESPNU contests throughout the regular season and conference championships, beginning on January 5, 2018. The MAAC has five Fridays (January 5, 19, 26; February 2 & 23) during the regular season in which any game schedule on that date can be flexed onto ESPNU as the MAAC Wildcard Game. On January 26, the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason (CIT) champion Saint Peter’s University faces in-state rival Rider University at 7:00 p.m. in Lawrenceville, NJ at Alumni Gym. Additionally, one women’s basketball regular season contest, Marist at Quinnipiac is set to air on ESPNU, on January 11 at 10:00am at Quinnipiac Sports Arena in Hamden, CT. ESPN will televise the 2018 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Semifinal Games on Sunday, March 4. Semifinal #1 will air live on ESPN3 at 7:00 p.m. and will re-air at 11:30 p.m. on ESPNU, tape delayed. Semifinal #2 will air at 9:30 p.m., live, on ESPNU. The 2018 MAAC Basketball Championships are held at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY on March 1-5, 2018. All four men’s basketball quarterfinal games are on ESPN3. The 2018 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship Game on Monday, March 5 airs on ESPNU at 2:30 p.m. The 2018 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Game airs on ESPN or ESPN2 on Monday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. This is determined 7-10 days prior to the championship. The wildcard format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for the selected date to air on the designated platform. ESPN will announce which game has been selected for the wildcard telecast 21 days out. This format enables the MAAC and ESPN flexibility to showcase the best possible matchups throughout the season. The MAAC & ESPN enter the first-year of an eight-year agreement. MAAC institutions will produce additional games on ESPN3.MAAC Wildcard Games & Dates: Friday, January 5, MAAC Wildcard Game, 7:00 p.m. MAAC Wildcard Games & Dates: Friday, January 5, MAAC Wildcard Game, 7:00 p.m. Niagara at Siena Manhattan at Monmouth Fairfield at Rider Iona at Saint Peter’s Canisius at Quinnipiac Friday, January 19, MAAC Wildcard Game, 9:00 p.m. Iona at Monmouth Canisius at Manhattan Friday, January 26, MAAC Wildcard Game, 7:00 p.m. Saint Peter’s at Rider Friday, February 2, MAAC Wildcard Game, 7:00 p.m. Fairfield at Monmouth Manhattan at Siena Quinnipiac at Iona Canisius at Marist Niagara at Saint Peter’s Friday, February 23, MAAC Wildcard Game, 9:00 p.m. Manhattan at Iona Marist at Niagara Saint Peter’s at Quinnipiac www.maacsports.com/news/2017/9/1 ... edule.aspx

Unfortunately ESPNU is a premium channel on a number of cable packages

So, there are five wildcard dates and on one of them, there is only one game and on another only two? Great concept, but poor scheduling by Ensor and his cronies.

Do you really believe Ensor picks first in this game? He got offered a Friday night slot and jumped at it.
It is not a great schedule siena wise, but for the MAAC overall it looks like a good deal.
Oh, and that is his job.

Siena self-produces all of their home games, hopefully they'll continue partnership with the Tres so us out of towners can watch all the games for free.

I am in the NY/NJ media market but I have been able to watch most Siena games on Apple TV/ ESPN3 or ESPNU. I think it was about $99 one time. Over the 5 years I have had it that is obviously about $20 per year. Less than gas and tolls to go to one game at TUC, but you really can't beat being in section 207 live.

If the conference only schedules one or two games on a wildcard date, you are less likely to get a game among two of the best teams on the air, because they may very well not be playing. Really disappointing response from someone with enough sense to use a Fenway avatar. The issue is not a Siena issue, it is what is best for the MAAC, which would be having the best possible game shown.

Part of the problem is that the MAAC is no longer very good. Fran left, JAM left, Ruland left.... and it just ain't the same. Siena was for a while "the flag bearer" for the league. Iona ends up being the "NCAA" rep and mediocre Siena teams can beat them at home. Remember when the number one versus number two bracket buster game in the nation was Siena vs Butler? Or when the fans worried that Siena might get ODU or VCU in that game instead. I think for the first time in a long time, Siena has a punchers chance. King Rice Will do a great job for as long as he sticks around. QU, will put the money into what they have to do. Siena used to have kids who would "answer the bell" every game. Right now they have one in my opinion, EF. You can say he is too this, or too that, or not enough something else, the kid is a warrior and a player from what I have seen (I never even shaken his hand, so no vested interest here). NC, looks to have terrific physical talent, lets see how he does with his head. PO, looks to be another physically gifted player, and JH with his 25 (I know it was exhibition) should not be ignored, but if these guys can come out to play, and maybe TH, (his dad was one of those who could answer the bell), who might be another piece, this year's team might be more than "pretty good" . I know this is off subject, and my prejudice is a hockey player mentality, but I was too lazy to start a new thread or post else where. Come November, tape it up and go get them.

Siena can score.
The #1 question is:
Will this team take good care of the ball?
If the answer is 'Yes,' they can be a top 5 MAAC team. If the answer is 'No,' they are a PIG team.
It's that simple.
You'd think with loads of combo guards and guys who can create they would...but after Canada I'm not so sure. I know it was a very young team playing on a 24 sec shot clock and rushing but I was not particularly encouraged.
Last few years, Siena turned it over but they made up for it with dominant rebounding and a high points per shot. They scored on efficient 2 pt field goals with lots of drawn fouls.
I don't see this team as efficient nor dominating the boards.
If they can't have a positive assist ratio as a team...they're probably done before they start.

I am not a JP fan and I don't expect a lot initially from the team but I hope to see and experience some fun as the young guys each get a chance to have an exceptional game and show us what the future might hold...

I don't think we will take GREAT care of the ball, but not having Nico & Shivers, as well as the 24 second shot clock, makes me think we won't be as bad as we were in Canada. Perhaps my biggest takeaway from that trip was that we won the rebounding battle in all 3 games. While there is no shot we are going to be as good on the glass as we were last year, we could still be at least league average if not slightly above. For reference, Canisius got beat up on the boards by their Canadian competition (2 of whom were common opponents of ours) so it's not like they can't rebound the ball up there or were just too small.

Either you win on # of possessions or efficiency of those possessions. Win the turnover margin. Win the rebounding battle. Win points per shot battle. I'm not sure Siena has the defense to keep others from scoring and the rebounding won't be dominant. So either Siena has a high PPS by shooting great and drawing fouls and they care of the ball or they're probably gonna struggle.

I agree with you there, was just mostly a rambling on my part about how I was actually quite pleased with how we rebounded the ball on the trip.

Jimmy's career average D ranking is 210th. But he's been in the top 200 in 5 of the last 8 years. Last year, they were 206.
He really needs to up the D.
Get a top 180 D and I'll like their chances a lot more.

Siena's Points Per Shot in Canada was just 1.22.
That's usually around 8th or 9th in the MAAC.
Hopefully, with Nico and Shivers back and more experience playing together that number goes up...cause right now...that's not gonna cut it.
