Siena in control of its own destiny... kind of....
Considering after all the ups and downs of this season, going into last week of the season, if St. Peter's splits it's Western NY road trip this weekend(good chance of this happening) and Iona loses at least one of two(very good chance of this happening), probably to Monmouth at Monmouth on Sunday, Siena is in control of it's own destiny to finish in 2nd Place - right where they were picked to finish in the pre-season.
They will be going into the MAAC Tournament as one of the hottest teams, and will have only been swept by one team in the MAAC(Canisus).
They will have also put themselves into a very good chance to playing on Monday night with everything on the line.
That's all you can ask for at this point.
Go Saints! Beat Monmouth!

this will be by FAR the most difficult road game of the yr (forget the comparison to playing at Kansas, we had ZERO chance of winning that game)............Monmouth has much to prove as I am sure they still consider the Saints a threat in the tourney, they also have a big winning streak going, plus this game is on ESPN2 (national broadcast with entire college hoop world to see) and it is also their senior night for them sending off some terrific players during their successful run the last few yrs including Justin Robinson (favorite to win POY and the Hawks all-time leading scorer)................hopefully the team is focused, as well as the coaching staff is this week in preparation for walking into what will be a "hornets nest" as well as the largest hostile MAAC crowd they will face all yr...................emotions are going to be sky high for the Hawks, Siena cannot come out slow or it will be over quickly...........this could be asking a lot of this group to pull this one out amid all the momentum that Monmouth has as stated above but here is hoping they are up for the challenge..............

It's tough to bet on SPU losing AND Siena winning out.
Even though SPU lost the homes games vs. both Niagara AND Canisius, I have a feeling they are just in too much of a groove right now to lose to these 2 teams. And it's been in the news how the kids on these teams hate playing at home.
We shall see.
Iona swept SPU...so should Siena lose to Monmouth....it's likely they're 4th or lower even if Iona loses to Monmouth. They'd have to lose to Manhattan too in order to pass them and they really, really stink.

The best news for Siena is that FF and Canisius play each other.
After days of research in the tomes of our ancestors I have determined that according to the NCAA rules as set forth by Morgan and Bartholomew; they both can't win that game.
Siena is locked into at least 5th without winning a single game as long as FF doesn't win all three remaining games (Monmouth, @canisius, @niagara). Saints have 11 wins and FF has 9 and we win on the tie breaker since we swept them.
The chances of Siena being in the PIG are near that of winning the lottery at this point. If Siena beats Marist, it doesn't even matter what FF does.

Siena played Monmouth tough for a half at the TUC. 40 minutes! Anything less and we have no shot.

All that matters right now is that if they win on Friday night, they will be in a good spot to not finish 4th or 5th.
Hornets nest it may be on Friday night, but Monmouth has a lot more to lose than Siena does.
If Siena start's out strong and the longer they are in the game, hopefully the tighter Monmouth will play.

Beating Monmouth is important for several reasons. Not the least of a loss at Monmouth would give Patsos his 3rd losing regular season in 4 years at Siena

What I'm looking for this week is no "joke" comments in the media about having no chance this Friday.

Monmouth has a lot more to lose than Siena does. They do? What would they lose if we beat them Friday night? Monmouth currently has a RPI of 42- A home loss to a team of Siena’s caliber would be looked at by the NCAA seeding committee as a “bad” loss .. it could mean difference between a 11 seed and a 13 seed for Hawks. Now I know we are getting ahead of ourselves here- but Monmouth will be heavy favorite in Albany in 2 weeks. Personally I’ll be surprised if Hawks don’t win the MAAC- they are clearly better than any other team in MAAC

What would they lose if we beat them Friday night? only possible angle is this poster thinking an "at-large" bid potential..........I am not even sure if Monmouth runs the table and just loses in MAAC final if that would warrant them even bubble consideration (their resume last yr was much stronger and they got left out)...........of course possible NCAA seeding could come into play with late season losses as well should they punch their ticket..............

Upsets can and do happen- but make no mistake about it Siena beating Monmouth would be a monumental upset. After an early season swoon when Hawks lost 3 in a row ( to North Carolina, SPC and Rider) Hawks have manhandled the rest of MAAC winning 13 in a row – including bitch slapping the Gals by 18, beating FF by 42 and of course totally humiliating Siena on its home floor last week. Always a chance Hawks look past Saints- but I doubt it- Monmouth is looking to win their final 3 – it will be interesting to see how Hawks play at FF today after laying a 42 beat down on Fairfield earlier this year
