Interesting that new MAAC entry schools may take both men and women's basketball championship this year . . . both having best on-campus facilities in MAAC

Monmouth is easily the best MAAC team since Fran's Siena teams. If they don't win the tournament this year it is an epic choke job. They still could get an at-large if they win out until the finals. The bubble is weak and the selection committee may make it up to mid-majors since they got screwed last year.
Monmouth has the ability to make the sweet 16 if they get in with the right draw. No matter what they do King Rice will almost certainly will be moving on after the season.

I agree they aren't nearly as good as Fran's Siena teams. The sweet 16 is possible...you have to be very good obviously and you need luck. Siena's 2008-09 team was sweet 16 caliber but we got screwed having to play Louisville the tournament's overall #1 seed (which we still almost won). We actually had a better path the year before after beating Vandy and getting a 12 seed Villanova who just was a bad match-up and we ran out of gas. The third year had we had Clarence Jackson we beat Purdue IMHO and who knows what happens against Texas A&M? Look at Florida Gulf Coast and Cornell both made the sweet 16 recently not on the level of our great teams. If Monmouth gets a lucky draw they could do it. Doesn't make them the best in MAAC history of course. All that said, I would not be shocked if Monmouth lost in the tournament until they do it in a big spot I'll be skeptical.

We did not get screwed facing the 1 seed. It was amazing to get an 8 seed and play in the 8-9 game but as always the winner of 8-9 plays 1. It is just how it works.

Sent from my SM-G900P using proboards We were actually a 9 seed. I get what you are saying though. A #9 was tremendous respect and if basically gives you a toss-up Round of 64 game (though we had to play Ohio St in Dayton) the problem is the #1 seed awaits you in the Round of 32. #1 seeds usually do not lose prior to the sweet 16 and if they do it is against an underachieving high-major (watch out Gonzaga!). I truly believe had Siena been an 11 seed that year we would have gone at least to the sweet 16. I also think had we hung on against Louisville we would have crushed Arizona and faced Michigan State in the elite 8 for the right to go to the final four. Of course if we didn't bomb in Orlando we might have been in the 6-11 game as the #6. Man, I want to get back to those fun times...cmon administration wake up! Siena still has a lot going for her.

Upsets can and do happen- but make no mistake about it Siena beating Monmouth would be a monumental upset. After an early season swoon when Hawks lost 3 in a row ( to North Carolina, SPC and Rider) Hawks have manhandled the rest of MAAC winning 13 in a row – including bitch slapping the Gals by 18, beating FF by 42 and of course totally humiliating Siena on its home floor last week. Always a chance Hawks look past Saints- but I doubt it- Monmouth is looking to win their final 3 – it will be interesting to see how Hawks play at FF today after laying a 42 beat down on Fairfield earlier this year Same Monmouth team you got as world beaters, this month, beat St Peters by 1, Rider by 5 and Manhattan by 4. Yeah, they're the best team, but they can be beat.

Exactly, that 20 point loss was far from humiliating against Monmouth. Monmouth couldn't miss and I'm sure they and Siena know there is not a 20 point difference between the two teams. Friday's game is important for both teams Monmouth still on the bubble and they can't afford a loss at home, Siena wants to move up and gain some momentum heading into the tournament. I made plans for Friday night of Maac not thinking they would finish 2nd. I hope I have to change plans.

My first statement was upsets can and do happen- never said they were Kansas. Teams use to say Fran’s Siena’s teams could be beat also—and they could only it seldom happened. Monmouth has reeled off 13 straight MAAC wins for a reason. They are head and shoulders better than any team in the MAAC- that is undisputable. If Monmouth plays well they blow out MAAC teams- they play so-so and they win comfortably- they play bad and they still usually win a close game

Anyone know if there is a bus trip to Monmouth or the best way to get seats in Siena bench area?

AJ is long gone and Iona isnt as good as last year- the gap between Monmouth and 2nd best team is considerably larger this year than last
