I agree he was part of the issue just not the entire issue. YOU DO REALIZE ... This team has not shot the ball well, has not played defense well, has been unprepared at times, has lacked focus, has had other players injured, has had another player suspended and is not deep team. As far as today goes .... You do realize FF shot 3 - 22 from three today don't you? That all wasn't due to defense. FF missed some wide open shots. It happens. Did we play better today? Absolutely. So all I'm saying there were/are more issues at play than Nico. Some still exist. Just wait till we drop 2 in a row you'll read all about them right here ...... Well- let’s put this in perspective- no denying staff had a good game plan and kids executed it. Not sure what game you were watching OI- but FF got very few open looks from 3, and the FF kids that did get open looks were not shooters, if you give up something, you let kids that can’t shoot, shoot from 3- Nelson, Cobb and Johnson were covered all day and shooting with hand in there face. Now if you want to say why team wasn’t prepared like that all year, and will that continue- both valid points. I’m not thinking the world has changed with modest win streak. You’re right team still can’t shoot, isn’t deep. But this team was headed for single digit win season and bottom 2 to 3 finish in MAAC - since the dismissal of Nico team chemistry is noticeably better. Ball movement is noticeably better, defense noticeably better. Smithin compliments Quis, much better, and Kadeem really puts a tremendous amount of “EFFORT” into Defense, something I don’t thing we were seeing from Nico. Richards had his best game in long time, playing without looking over his shoulder. Even EF played much better grabbing 5 boards and hitting a 3 in 9 min of action. Team is now playing like its capable of top 4 finish. Does that make up for horrible start to season, of course not, does it guarantee team chemistry and defensive effort will continue- of course not. None of this is surprising, just wish coach had handled situation earlier in season and had more clearly defined “roles” he should never have allowed Nico to be out of control the way he was for so long, he shouldn’t have been playing a 6’9” kid that was chucking bad shots up and not rebounding. I’ve been saying a long time he isn’t stinky Jimmy. Team has a steep hill to climb to even get back to 500 and this will go down as under achieving bad season. But for now—it looks better, and I think even Jimmy’s harshest critic would have a hard time arguing against that Tremendous post Tony, it could not have been said better! I believe this is how most positive, dedicated fans feel. Realistic but hopeful with the positive turn of events. A few wins have been nice and encouraging. Your words will still be butchered up by 3 or 4 of our dark but passionate posters. It's difficult for them to even attempt to be positive. They are very quick to tell the rest of us every day what is wrong, over and over. I've given up reading their long negative articulations. It has made the season so much harder to bear.

The team was prepared and Jimmy seemed to have them playing hard, like a team and on the same page. I am not ready to say all things are fixed as Jimmy has shown more times then not he does not prepare well. Hopefully this is a turn in the right direction and we can enjoy the rest of the season, only time will tell. Now if he can only sign a shooter that has other D1 offers....

Yes they are playing much better. Love to see them finish 500 for the season or better. May be a tough mountain to climb but doable with some luck, and yes this group could use some. Tony is right ... (deleted the part I didn't agree was a +1 but I loved the beginning and end thoughts Dave). Hopefully the team buckles down and continues their winning ways. Love to see this group go out strong with the struggles of the last 4 years. +1

I'm still a ways away from feeling positive.
When it takes until mid January for a team to remember their own style of play that they've played for 3 years, it's usually not a good reflection on the staff.
Back in October, JP kept talking about shooting threes. So the team shot threes. JO, Wright, Clareth, Fisher..etc. He gave kids who are bad to so-so career 3 point shooters a green light...so they gunned it. He let them focus on threes instead of defense, rebounding, and shooting 2s...um you know, their bread and butter.
He took one of his best on paper shooters, Richard, and made him a pass first PG...while then telling the proven pass first PG to shoot more.
The team took the ball out of the hands of their most well rounded and efficient scorer (Bisping) and wondered why the offense wasn't nearly as efficient. The offense was ALWAYS best when it ran through him. He has to be covered everywhere.
JP took a contender and messed with their minds and confused their identity: An identity which every damn person in the league was aware of because there were countless stats and history to back it up.
I'm happy the Saints are finding themselves again but I don't yet trust a hope.

Actually it will only take one loss to hear about it from some. I'd even venture to say it'll only take one close win against a not so good team where Siena held a lead most of the game to only barely win it in the end for those comments to reappear. I would agree with many of the harshest posters that things could be fixed/better; it's just that I don't let those things get (me down or) in the way of cheering the team on or my general Siena fandom. I'm more like Dory in "Finding Nemo" except instead of "just keep swimming" I "just keep cheering". m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Hkn-LSh7es

I haven't watched a full game since Bucknell. I made my judgment of this team half way through the UVM game. I just check up on things periodically. It has actually been quite liberating.

I'm happy the Saints are finding themselves again but I don't yet trust a hope. Nico is let go and all of sudden all issues are solved in one outing. Sorry folks it doesn't work that way. This team has been improving over the last few games. JP had a good game plan yesterday and the team executed. That's why we won. KK is spot on JP had this team going sideways .... who was playing where, how the offense should run and through who, who should shoot, who should be on the floor. He was as big a factor in our subpar performances as anyone. Has this been corrected? We'll see. Ive seen some improvement in these areas over the past 3 games. But rest assured yesterday's performance had more to do with game planning and executing than it did Nico departing. With that being said Nico's issues were undoubtably a part of the problem and a factor, not sure what was going on, there's an underlying issue that we aren't privy to, its obvious he and Wright can not coexist. It became evident to a certain extent when Wright came back last season and became more apparent as this season unfolded. My biggest gripe with the Nico issue has more to do with taking17 games to adequately address the issue, that is on the coach and administration. Between JPs inability to figure out how to prep this team and the Nico distractions, suspensions, injuries and pressure to meet high expectations we were destined to struggle. In short all I'm saying is that I 'm not convinced all is solved. Im taking it one game at a time.

Nico's gunning jumpers off the bounce is something that should have been fully addressed, in I don't know, November of 2015. The kid shot only 32% last year and didn't even make 60% of his FTs...so it's suddenly ok for him to take a whopping 8 threes per 30 minutes?!! He shot 29% in AAU. Who didn't see this is as a risk? He should have been told to drive and attack the rim. It should have been pounded into his brain repeatedly.
That's all on the coach. He should have put that horse down before it started running. You let him shoot but the guard who shot 45% from three in HS and JP said was supposed to be a Tay Fisher... isn't put in a position to shoot?
This season is on JP.
It's his own fault for constantly riding the wrong damn pony. He's his own worst enemy.

I have stated repeatedly that all of us support (i.e., root for, cheer for, attend as many games as possible) the team, i.e., the players. We are one with you on that. Many of us have issues with the HC - the issues are his and a win, even at the Sweet Sixteen level isn't going to change them just due to that achievement. I think John D'Argenio has done a great job with the Athletic Department as a whole throughout his career - he has grown it while living within the guidelines afforded him, i.e., academic standards, budgets, facilities, etc. The hire of our current HC was driven largely by those higher in rank than John. I like the staff - they have to be amazing people to tolerate the issues this HC portrays on a regular basis - they have to walk a fine line between doing what their boss says and keeping the kids in the fold, that can't be easy. I am sure none of them enjoy being publicly berated while sitting on the bench at home or on the road. I couldn't work for that man but many can...so be it. I still am a fan, want the team to win, am disappointed when they don't and furious when the loss is REALLY on him as HC. I think you will agree I was cheering as loudly and as honestly as you yesterday right from the start.
