6-2 JUCO PG from D3 National Champ Herkimer CC who won national POY at the D3 JUCO level. Put up very good numbers... 15 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 6.5 APG, and a 2.8 A/TO while shooting .531/.338/.715 and posting 90 steals and 15 blocks. Being prioritized by some good D2 programs like Tampa and St Thomas Aquinas while he hopes for a D1 look. Was Mr Basketball of Section 1 in 2016. Tobins team? Our recruiting comp for this kid is D2? Numbers are ok but competition is weak. This doesn’t make much sense with Pickett on the fence. Who’s recruit is this? Not quite a Woods or Hutchins caliber. Harley Fuller is running this one I believe. Also, note that he hasn’t been offered yet. It’s just an unofficial visit where they will work him out and see what they like. Also, no one was recruiting Hason Ward 3 weeks ago, now you are saying he’s too good for the MAAC because VCU offers. Things change quick this time of year. I gotta watch more tape but he seems like a solid guard who can play either guard spot, hit shots, and take care of the ball.

I hear you and agree I need to see more but let’s not compare Ward with three A10 offers (Bonnie’s UMass and VCU) with a kid from D3 Herkimer with D2 schools after him. He maybe ok but he’s not in Woods Hutchins category. The idea Pickett can bolt at anytime doesn’t make me feel all that comfortable. If he’s replacing say Darwiche, fine.

Agree that he’s not like Woods or Hutchins, but my point is more so would you feel the same now taking Ward than if Ward had committed the day we found out about him when he had no offers in a year vs now with VCU and Bonnies? If Felder got 2 D1s would you want him now?

I tend to look at what is actually happening not “what if”.... right now all I know about this kid is that he’s played against weak comp at Herkimer and he’s being recruited by D2 schools and Ward is blowing up. I liked Ward off the bat after seeing film, he offers a lot that we currently lack. I’m less interested in a potential role player who is a guard. Just saying.... This is the kind of recruit Patsos would have been crucified over.

Just saying.... This is the kind of recruit Patsos would have been crucified over. So was Pickett. Patsos could have recruited Lebron but if Lebron had no offers, he'd be killed for it. This kid looks like he has quicks and ball skills. He dribbles with both hands, runs his team, and makes a lot of FTs. He had even better stats the year before. D3 may be like highschool ball but people are high on Hutchins based on...HS ball. At least the kid gets it done at the level he's at. We're desperate for guard help. He's only a 2 year risk. Better than Darwiche.

I think he’s an average athlete with good passing skills, solid ability to get to the rim, and a decent jumper. Not saying he’s my first choice but I’d take him.

Don't see a lot of dunks...and that may be why he's D3. Hasbrouck never dunked in games either though. Maybe a fair amount of his game would translate up to the MAAC. He's not flashy and no Walker athletically or sizewise, but maybe he could provide some help.
Honestly, if you were to compare what we see with him vs. with what we knew of Darwiche before coming. I'd take this kid 100% of the time. It wouldn't even be close.

Not yet, will as soon as I get a chance. Just hope Carm sticks to his guns when he said he’s not just going to take any player just to fill a vacancy. Not hearing from Edwards or Falzon is a bit disconcerting. We have too many real needs and have to get this done right. That’s all I’m saying.

D3 juco is fairly low level, watched some film and it’s hard to tell, the competition he is playing against is weak. Are we really going up against D2 teams for this kid? And forget the Ward comparison, as soon as you watched film of Ward his athleticism jumped out. Maybe more to this than I can see in limited video, but not impressive at all

Could be that they are doing someone a favor by shining the D1 light on this kid. Could be walk on material. I'll give the staff some trust here.

Recruiting a D3 JUCO tells me the staff may be getting themselves an insurance policy if JP ends up leaving THIS year for whatever reasons. Until we get a definitive “I’m staying” from Pickett, this kid will be on our radar. Like Tony says, we need to find kids that like Siena. So far he’s right, not many kids showing us love. That’s disheartening.

We have a hard working staff and a lot to sell.

I coached against Felder 3 times while he was at Saunders. I said this over on the other board, but he is a solid player. Not probably going to be an All-MAAC caliber player, but I would take him over GD right now. Kid is a winner, and like HJ said about another recruit he has stones. I see the issue in that everyone wants the first Carm recruit to be a Pickett type transformational player. That is not always the reality. The reality is we are one injury or NBA defection away from being extremely guard poor. To stick our noses up at a solid rotational piece is not very intelligent
