Who'd have thought, when the season began, a game at Niagara would have the implications it's wound up having?
Not me.

I know the diehards still want to win. If JP can't win with this much talent then he's a poor coach. There's no hope if a poor coach can't recruit superior talent.
I love the team, but we reached the end with JP, the same as Mitch 4 years ago.
We need a new AD, new administration and just start over.

Regardless of the outcome of this season from here on out I think we've seen enough in the 9 years at Loyola and the 3 plus here to know Rex isn't the guy. Player and staff turnover, poor recruiting, suspect offers, poor pre and in-game coaching, players regressing, disciplinary issues, suspect work ethic etc.... If you want more of the same turmoil and mediocrity Rex is your guy. If you want to be a competitive mid major program again, we need to look elsewhere.
I didn't like the hire, I hoped for the best, I've seen and had enough.
I'll continue to support the program as I've always done but it really hasn't been fun the past 6-7 years.

I don't even know how the administration can spin bringing Jimmy back next year. With Mitch you could say (going in his third and final year) that the team was pretty young, had a lot of injuries and overachieved (he went 14-17 with 6 players in 2011-12). With Lanier before his last year you could point to an NCAA/NIT in his first two years. If Siena wins 10-12 games with a senior laden team, and little coming back or coming in the program will be dormant with Jimmy back. They might as well just say we simply don't have the money to make a move because you'd have to be a fool to buy anything else.

MTS - that may in fact be the case although I have to wonder who makes the business decisions around there? I mean, OK, that got burned on Mitch but c'mon why put yourself in a position where you have no options? I truly hope they extended Jimmy's contract but not the buyout. It is possible that is the case. I wouldn't be offering guarantee money unless the guy had done something.
I know some will say that we won't get a good coach without ponying up. I call BS. There are < 400 D1 hoops jobs in the entire world. That's what I would call a buyer's market. If a guy is confident he can do the job, he'll take the $300K without the need for a huge buyout. I would load the contract with a good chunk of performance bonus money for 20-wins, marquee wins, post-season (N* tourneys only), etc. If the guy is for real he'll take it. Locking ourselves into a contract we can't afford to exit is suicide. I can understand a 2-year guarantee but if a coach isn't well on his way after 3 or 4 years they really don't deserve a buyout. Jimmy has to be making 5x-7x the median salary in Albany. If he can't afford to put something away for a rainy day that's on him.

Winning the CBI in year one might turn out to be a bad thing if that year was guaranteed that they added. If he has two guaranteed years he'll be back. If he has one year he's finished. The extension last year was fluff - pretty obvious the buyout did not move on that.

Two pretty bad 4-10 teams. Niagara blew a 12 pt 2nd half lead against QU on Monday.
Niagara a home underdog. I think they win outright.

Niagara is the 2nd worst team we've played all year (Arkansas PB clearly the worst), and the worst team we've played on the road this season by a country mile. In fact, Niagara is the only road game so far this season against a team that as of today has a losing record.
A road win is required at this point.

Cornell is 3-11. They are the second worst team played at least record wise.

Cornell is 3-11. They are the second worst team played at least record wise. They're nearly equally as bad, and if you want to go direct record without SOS or other metrics involved, I wouldn't waste time debating your stance. KenPom's got Cornell as a marginally better team.

STAIRINGATTHEFLOORBOARDS...BASKETBALL GURU AND HANDICAPPER:
Niagara +2.5 (Went into great detail on Monday’s post regarding this Siena team, and basically said the Buffalo trip was make or break for the Saints, and so far they’re breaking. They battled back at least at Canisius, but still no clue where this team is at mentally. Clearly the seniors are done playing for Patsos and the fanbase is already openly speculating about coaching candidates. What was supposed to be a potential MAAC title year has quickly devolved into a dumpster fire. Niagara isn’t great, and they have their own issues, but they do have a plus backcourt combo in Dukes and Scott on the wing, but Dom Robb has to stay out of foul trouble against a Siena offense that wants to get everything at the rim. Niagara is coming off a brutal collapse against Quinnipiac in a game they had fairly well in hand until the final 4 minutes when the wheels completely fell off and then some questionable whistles sank the Purple Eagles. Chris Casey was pretty livid about the events, and it’s either a motivating factor on a quick turnaround or something that hangs them up. Saints come home from western NY with two losses and their season will likely quickly crumble. More so.)
Line is now SIENA-5.. based on they have to win logic
