I know they're just numbers, but..............

I read the board daily and I share everyone's frustrations and disappointments in the 3-7 start for our Saints. But, tonight, I decided to do some work with the numbers. Below is the data as of Monday, December 12th.
After my research, I am still frustrated and discouraged, but not quite as much so. On the other hand, maybe this points out again what a horrible loss Rider was. You decide.

This just points out how damaging the suspensions and injuries are to this team. If they were living up to the preseason hype imagine how different the numbers would look.

The Rider loss is very bad, yes, yes it is.

Another item this points out, the MAAC stinks.

What matters is 3 - 7 and 0 - 7 on the road. Multiple 1000 pt scorers, 4 seniors, stud soph. Team is underperforming. The MAAC is mediocre.

Just win, no excuses.

Big opportunity tonight for Monmouth at Memphis. A game they need to win if they hope to even be in the at large discussion at the end of the year. Loss and they would have to win at Chapel Hill (which isn't happening) to have any shot.

If they didn't get an at-large last year I can't believe they'd get one this year.

I don't think the MAAC stinks just that there is no dominant team. Could be good for Siena if we can get our shit together.

The committee remembers previous years whether they are supposed to or not, they will give Monmouth a harder look this year just because of last year. If their only non-conference losses are at South Carolina, Syracuse, and North Carolina and they go 18-2 in league they will have a good shot. Add in a loss at Memphis though and they don't stand much of a chance.

The MAAC has s shot to hell! Especially when you compare it during the McCaffery years!

The MAAC is a one hit wonder. Two teams ain't gonna happen. Last year is proof and the NCAA Committee isn't gonna do any favors for Monmouth.

Looking at the rpi the clear top 5 are big east acc big 10 big 12sec, no surprise there. Then it gets interesting as the next tier consists of a10, PAC 10 and aac. I would usually call this tier high mid major but this time there are only a few conferences and it includes a power conference lol. The mid major tier includes 9-16, mountain west Missouri valley west coast sun belt colonial athletic southern south land wac. The next tier low mid major includes the maac along with Ohio valley summit mac horizon conference USA patriot American east Atlantic sun. Low majors are big south northeast big sky big west big south. Sub low majors are meac and swac. To make a long story short the maac is close to the level it needs to be but I think the top tier teams are going to have a hard time absorbing conference losses and still making the ncaas.

It almost happened twice in the past five years but clearly it aint gonna happen. The win at Memphis will put Monmouth squarely on the bubble if they finish with 5 or 6 losses and make a respectable showing at North Carolina.
