FULL support in this measure. Such hogwash in my opinion that certain athletes can compete immediately and others cannot!

Really makes sense to have these so called hardships addressed before getting back on the court. That point alone will probably pass this. How is it not better for the student athlete to just be a student while they spend time with the sick relative etc.. get rid of giving them something that does not help them adjust to the move... it just adds more stress and takes up time they are supposed to be spending with family they were missing

This is almost as big as the addition of cream cheese to the menu. In fact both of these rules will do more to increase scoring than last years rules did.

Wait, so now they will get 6 years of elegibility and have to sit 1, allowing them to play 5?? Doesn't make sense.

Pretty sure it means you will now have 6 years to play 4. The rule was always 5 to play 4, but now you can sit a year for an injury, AND sit a year for transferring home to be with your sick grandma.

I guess that is an improvement...I knew it was 4 within 5, this made it sound like they gave an extra year of elegibilty, which didn't make sense.

I was never really a fan of the "waiver" anyway. I always thought the NCAA should treat all cases the same; either everyone gets to play right away or everyone has to sit the 1 yr (no exceptions). That's the only way it's fair.

I am certain that the "year to adjust" for whatever "reason" that prompted the transfer will not be much different for a player than a year where they are on the active roster. I would think they would still be going to all practices, conditioning sessions (especially now with the "eat all you want" benefit), individual skill development sessions AND classes so I'm not certain what "time" it buys them to "adjust". The elimination of the hardship waiver is a needed change. Since the NCAA is looking to eliminate work by not having to review current transfer reasons it is not a leap to believe any transfer fits the new rule. We will now, no doubt see cases where coaches going after a kid that school A has offered but wants the kid to redshirt year one can now say "Take their offer, redshirt and then transfer here for an additional development year and then you'll start for us for four years!" Not saying it will happen much, but it will happen. I would also think this would make it easier for a coach to "suggest" a transfer since the player will not lose a year of eligibility.

The travel time is the difference. You dont travel and miss classes while you redshirt. You do have more time than the active player.

Very true but the travel time doesn't start until November, almost at the end of the first semester of the "adjustment" period! You have more leeway as a redshirt. And that includes practice obligations and extra film sessions and individual training. Not a hugh difference but the intent seems to be more inline with the hardship

This rule has passed and the immediate eligibility via hardship is now a thing of the past. How sweet is it that we have basically an intact roster for next season- its almost May and Iona doesn't have a clue what their roster will look like for next season. Apparently some of their recruits have not signed LOI's yet- not sure if that means they are not eligible yet or are having second thoughts about signing with a low major like Iona. Gals dont have much up front-- Point guard is a question mark for them as is replacing 90 min, 40ppg..since they cant go their normal hardship route, Gals will have to look for JuCo players for immediate help. Or hope Sledge and Hines are good enough to offset their massive graduation losses-

Iona has just lost 2 of their 3 recruits. It's nearly May and they now have 3 scholarships to fill. Looks like they'll be perusing the transfer/juco lists yet again. At some point the recruiting methods there are going to take their toll.
