Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 10h
Siena has a gem in 6-foot freshman Marquis Wright. PG is averaging 5.8 APG. Has handed out 32 dimes in his last five games.Marquis getting some national love too. If he can improve his outside shot and foul shooting the sky is the limit for this kid. I can't wait to see him leading Siena to many great wins over the next 3 1/2 years! Next great Siena PG! Like Kenny Hasbrouck said on Quis: "He's got it". Wright leads ALL frosh in the nation in assists ...............terrific, considering the multitude of diaper dandies out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going to be an interesting race for rookie all-MAAC team. Have to figure as of now Wright, James and Hart have locked up 3 spots as multiple ROW winners. would say 8 players with shot at 2 remaining spots.
Long 9pts 5rebs Jimmy Taylor 11.5pts 22 3pfgs 4rebs 3ass Rider Kasim Chandler 9pg 2reb 3ass 1 row 1st pl team Quinnipiac Zach Lewis 10pg 39 3pfgs 2reb avr 15 pts/g last 5 games 1st pl team Canisius KJ Rose 7pt 3reb 3ass Fairfield rich Williams 6pts 3 rebs Manhattan Ron Snowden 9pts 20 3pfgs 5 reb 1.5 steals Niagara Wyche 9pts 2rebs 1.5steals 4 ass St. Peters
After this weekend halfway thru the season. Pretty decent freshmen in league and that does not include some other promising frosh who don't get enough PT to compete for ALL-MAAC spot but will make impacts next season. With a lot of good returning upper classmen I don't think the MAAC will be as bad as some say it will be next year despite the loss of some great SRS

Thanks hoopsfan! Will be interesting to see what team they are each on as it seems the contribution to winning games also factors into the final selections imho.

Thank you!
I think the players on teams that are above us in standings at this point are going to be hard to have rookies left off the team if they stay consistent. Wright will be the exception for us as his numbers are now nationally recognized. How many assists would he have if we could finish more layups?

It looks like MAAC started all rookie teams in 1998. No all rookie teams listed before that, only all league teams. 2003 was only year they picked 6 players for all rookie team, so I guess its possible.

Bait, Bite Battle warning.... HJ - isn't possible she was just trying to understand something that, after all these years, ALL of us don't have a true handle on yet because of how damned subjective it is? Really love it when an All-MAAC or All Rookie team has like 3 PGs & 2 4s. Welcome to the Mickey Mouse MAAC... No one has a handle, because no one cares. I still haven't seen who votes for the ROW yet. Is it the SID's? But if you think she was "inquiring" for anything but the Long family, you haven't been paying attention

Guilty of an attempt at ruining a good thread. I dont make this stuff up lol

You are right on point...the coaches will pick from their memory of each player in head to head for all of the All MAAC teams along with the stats for the entire season...the weekly awards are another thing to look at and that is the grey area I am talking about...I was curious about what has happened in the past in this league...not personal at all

The ROW awards are a completely different animal than ALL-MAAC rookie team. As you see in my post Ryden Hines from Iona is the only frontcourt player to win ROW this year and who knows he might win again but I did not even list him as one of the 8, IMO, that are fighting for a couple of spots because his overall stats just don't match up with the others. PPC and nolesaint are you both saying the rookie all-MAAC team should be chosen by position? or do you think it should just be the 5 best freshmen regardless of position?

I believe the coaches vote for the all league teams, POY and ROY. But, they can't vote for their own players. any one of us who speaks to the staff regularly could ask to be sure, but I think someone already can probably confirm this.

I really dont have an opinion as to how the teams should be selected. .I was curious about how they were selected. What I dont like is that redshirt freshmen are included because although they did not play their freshman year they were able to use that first year as a run through as a DI student athlete. .and that gives them an advantage over the true freshmen that have to jump right in and compete while they go through everything that comes with being a student athlete on the DI level.. so the freshmen that excel under those circumstances should not have to compete for a newcomer award with sophomores that had the extra year to deal with those challenges. For Wright to lead the league in assist and steals while attending college classes being away from home and having to manage his time etc..is more impressive to me than the 2nd year guy that did everything but play games for a year already

Look at Iona who was playing with a slew of 22 23 and 24 yr olds against a Siena team that averages an age of 19 or so.
