I know his weight is a problem. Their scoring on us anyway and game experience is better than practice. Let him play

JO and Wolfe will be really good players for us starting next year. Freshmen big men rarely excel at the mid-major level. If people are down on either I would say to allow them to get stronger and make the sophomore jump before thinking they won't be all-league players. You can tell when a player has talent and just needs to physically get strong (see Ryan Rossiter back in 2007-08).
For now though I wouldn't mind the starting line-up to be small with Wright, White, Oliver, Poole and Bisping.

Wow! That comparison is pretty surprising. Based on that, yes, I really don't know why we don't see him play more. Then again, I will say that I am a little baffled at JP's substitutions. Thanks for that.

I have serious doubts about MTS's suggestion of "Wright, White, Oliver, Poole and Bisping". Oliver, Poole and Bisping are all quite slow and lack quickness. With this line-up, the team could not play any man defense and would have significant defensive deficiencies. Also, although Oliver has finally started scoring a few points, he is very limited; he is unable to create his own shot, can't take his man off the dribble, does not go the rim, lacks a good handle and merely catches the ball and shoots or passes - he does not attack or create anything for his teammates. Let's face it, most of our upperclassman are role players, we definitely lack D1 level talent. As fans we don't like to admit this, but compare some of our veteran players to other MAAC players and the comparison is not good in terms of speed, athleticism, ball handling, shooting, etc.. Give it time, JP has us on the right track, but let's face the reality that we have a significant talent gap.

It doesn't matter what the starting 5 are, JP has proven on more than 1 occasion that can change less than 30 seconds into a contest. The talent gap is blatantly obvious. I like the kids and in no way is it a slight on them personally, just a fact. There are 4 teams in the league right now that we are going to struggle with because of their perimeter shooting and our lack of. I doubt anyone is going to fear us in March much more than they do now as we are not seeing the strides we thought possible. I picked a 14 & 17 season I stick with that assessment. No stars, just a solid middle of the road team and I'm ok with that for now. Its on JP going forward to improve that, I didn't think it would take 3 recruiting classes when the season started but that is more than obvious now it's going to take that long to change the talent profile. I guess we sit back and enjoy the ride....... As bumpy as it may be.

Some of that gap will close with freshmen becoming sophomores. Wright needs to shoot better (particularly free throws) White has to get more consistent with his outside shot. JO and Wolfe need to get stronger. Long has to stop fouling out in less than 20 min and improve his shooting – all of that is ‘doable” We have everyone back next year- hopefully all the freshmen improve and make the sophomore jump. We add Patrick Cole- who Jimmy and several of the players call our best player this year. At any rate I expect him to be a significant “add” Patrick can get his shot off pretty much any time he wants- he strengthens the two and the three. We need to add a combo guard. Another blatantly obvious fact - Hymes is not a PG- we really need a kid that can play point- which is easier said than done with Wright at the 1- a Taplin type kid would seem to be a good fit .. Shores up the backup point- and allows Cole to play more at 3 ( along with Poole ) and strengthens 3 positions with 1 add
Every single MAAC team loses significant parts this year – Iona losses its back court- Jaspers lose a ton of players- Canisius loses Baron and will end back to basement where they belong – Quinny will be tough but lose a starting guard ..Rider lose their best two players
The way things stand right now I expect Quinny to be picked one next year and Siena as high as 2nd ..with MAAC tournament in Albany next year Siena will definitely be a threat to win MAAC as soon as next season- but Jimmy and staff have some work to do on recruiting trail – to close the ‘talent gap”

I hope you're right Tony and I hope Cole is the missing piece to the puzzle.

I don’t think Cole is totally the answer – but he will definitely be a significant add. On plus side Patrick has good size for guard 6’5” can shoot the 3 and has a good handle- He is one of the few players we have that can “create” his own shot and next year will be his 3rd year in D1- on the negative side Patrick can get out of control and never saw a shot he didn’t like ( he is a gunner) he will definitely have to “buy” into Jimmy’s system of sharing the ball – besides Patrick Jimmy has to add at least one player—preferably a kid that can play point and can shoot the rock –if he can we should be a solid team up and down line up
I’m confident program is headed in right direction – we have some holes or if you will some gaps – Jimmy’s job is to close them and get Siena back on top of MAAC where we belong

He'll be awelcome addition. the 2-3 kids we add for next year have to be shooters!!

In the college insider interview Patsos said the returning players are better than he thought.. hence only one freshman starting right now...with White and Long coming off the bench spelling the 2-4 spots without any pressure to carry the team they will both get mins and experience for seasons to come...while Oliver and Bisping have stepped up their games and now lead....I think this group can be dangerous come tournament time and I still feel that 5th place is doable this season

Glad to see some of the returnees doing better than most anybody expected, including Jimmy. At this point in the season (middle of MAAC schedule) I think it's good to have those guys bear a little more of the load/responsibility with the younger guys still getting major minutes and experience. And by tournament time everybody will hopefully be able to step up. We still have chances to take some games that we are not expected to, but have to win those that we are. A little off-topic, but I would like to hear JP address the foul issues a little bit more. What is the coaching staff doing to try to minimize that? esp. overly-aggressive defense a long ways from the hoop and keeping those in foul trouble available later in the game.

Ousmane Drame returns, but will likely be far less effective without Azotam working alongside him. They may actually take a step back.

It has been addressed and he wants them to stay aggressive yet be more careful when you get your 4th...It will take the rest of the season to get through this...you want the backcourt to keep their man in front of them to protect the frontcourt...but I do see the guys giving up layups rather than defending the shot more now..

I don't think this is the right approach--- the team is one of the worst in the country at this and it is not helping them win games-- lose lose. At any rate they have to learn how to "bother" the opponent without actually fouling. As others have said it might already be too late as the refs have made up their minds. It is too bad because the team is pretty good at rebounding and the maac players are not going to make these layups every time. If each player on the team could reduce their fouls by about .5 each game the better players would be on the court for a few minutes more each game and I believe it will make a difference in a few games (perhaps the difference between a winning record and post season play or a fourth straight losing season). Yes I understand we need a few more "pieces" but I am talking about THIS team. It's not a bad team -- it's pretty good actually overall except for this one glaring issue....

What would you do instead? The coaches are working with the players on the new rules...very few charges are taken and the guys have their hands up all the time now...defending not to foul rather than to stop....we should prob attack the rim more off the bounce to put pressure on the other team like they are doing to us and I do see improvements there as well..
