Only thing I would do different is take them out when they get 3rd or 4th foul… how many times have we seen these kids get bang 4th and then 5th foul . It’s one thing leaving a senior out there with 4 fouls another with freshmen, its well known you foul more when tired and or make stupid fouls when gassed.. take them out have coach talk to them – catch their breath and send em back – still might foul out but you extend time they are available and extra rest and a few min to think about foul trouble might sink in. Going forward very difficult to be a consistent winner if you foul too much

Remember Fran never played anyone the rest of the first half who picked up their second foul. I didn't always agree with it but it's something that maybe Jimmy should consider going forward.

I think it depends on the individual not the class as some guys never learn to play with fouls..and until there is more consistentcy with these new rules coaches and players have to figure it out...Patsos always takes players out after they get their second foul in the 1st half or their 4th in the second..he then lets certain players come back in with the 2 in the first if they were a starter to stay competitive in the game but will take them back out before the half is over. At times he does not get a chance to get the player out when they get their 4th like Wright did the other night...his sub was at the table but the player missed the FT and we did not get the rebound

Maybe I am missing something here, but when the 11 player comes in (as Rich Audu has in 2-3 games), I would have him playing the more physical defense on the dribble drive rather than let the opposing player get to (specifically) the 4-5 player to save them the potential foul.
Again, I only coached girls, but the bottom line is at the end of the game if it's close I want my best 5 on the floor, not on the bench fouled out.

That's what everyone wants..add that Patsos expects everyone that gets in the game to play defense not just the 11th man...everyone is held responsible for keeping their man in front of them rather than putting the frontcourt at risk...but the new rules make that very difficult. ..alot of teams are just letting the other team score the 2 pts and those with good 3 pt shooting are making up for it behind the arc...

No they don't. Other teams are adjusting. Go through MAAC stats and see how many other teams have starters who don't foul out with frequent consistency.

It can and should be addressed, and I am suggesting using bench depth to give some ugly fouls before anyone gets hit with a third in the first half.

Yes some teams have adjusted by not playing defense and attempting to outscored opponents rather than stop them...just read on the Iona board that Laury is not playing tough D so he can stay out of foul trouble. .maybe that's just the fans talking but not the first time I have heard that said...I see guards all over the country getting beat and giving up on the play with hands in the air so they dont get called for a foul...then the big is stuck on the island with his hands up hoping the player misses the shot..

Iona teams never play D....they rely on their offense to win games; ask anyone who knows the MAAC. Yes, though, I agree, even some of the fastest guards are getting beat and giving up.

Then we agree...as for Patsos he holds his players accountable on the defensive end..and the aggressiveness that are his trademark do not mess well with the new rules...his guys have to be perfect to survive and that is alot to ask esp for freshmen

Somebody just has to figure out how to make a zone that's quicker than a pass and all will be well. I hate the new rules. That being said, there has never been a time like the present to get a kids with a lightening quick release and accuracy from beyond the arc.
Is Siena getting the "fouling team" label with the refs Greenblood was talking about players getting?

Is Siena getting the "fouling team" label with the refs Greenblood was talking about players getting? Well John Hughes is certainly full of whistle blowing air when he is on the court with the Saints! I have looked at some stats, but admittedly am more of an observation/gut feeling type of person- (need help from Gorvy or KK here) With that said, I am also a gambling person and with our frontcourt (BB, JO, IS and LL) having 224 fouls so far I'd lay about 2-1 we are leading that category. That is what worries me. Perception is everything *** Disclaimer - I only checked the Siena Saints website, didn't have time to go to MAAC stats Fine print: the opinions typed in this box are not necessarily the opinions of Tony, HJ, Misspractice, or sg97

We are leading the country in foul outs and 7th in fouls per game. I think that means we are doing something wrong :-) Patsos seems to be abandoning the man to man as a result which is making our defense too predictable-- and it is not stopping the issue anyway. If changes aren't made we could be in for a downward spiral the rest of the season despite the let up in competition. As a good coach my money is on Patsos figuring out at least a band-aid approach to stop the bleeding -- if he doesn't have the answer on his staff I would expect him to bring in a consultant or two in the off season. Fundamental changes have to be made in his approach or I don't see this program in the NCAAs anytime soon.

Young team and new rules...every team in the country fouls more. The players will figure it out..might take the rest of the season for some..The staff has addressed this issue now the players have to learn to play without fouling yet still play aggressive. .there is a fine line between the 2
