It was said earlier but the best thing to come out of last night's game is that we did not quit. We outscored them in the second half. But for the first 5 minutes of that game being down 9-0 last night, we would have been right in this game. That's a credit to everybody! I really hope Jimmy stresses that. We left a bunch of points on the table missing some freebies - that's going to improve. And we obviously need to improve the outside shooting, but so much of this game was playing a more experienced higher-level team. It wasn't as bad as it looked. Bottom line is we can play with those guys.
The yo yoing of white now coupled with his not starting has hit his confidence.
I really found it unfair that Oliver gets the start and looks off two wide open shots and had two extremely horrible turnovers in all of 3 or 4 mins before getting yanked and white gets yanked the moment he makes one mistake
I want White in the game, too, but those layups he's missing should be automatic - they are momentum killers and should be made regardless of his confidence level. Oliver is not confident either, but he is not making as many glaring mistakes, so he gets a little more leeway.
Maurice is Jimmy's recruit, so he is pretty secure in his position on the team, but he needs to reel in some of the wide open misses. Seriously, why did he slow down to a crawl and then try to dunk that ball? I expect him to get that sorted out and, at the same time, I understand the pressure that Jimmy is trying to put on him to GET that sorted out. As a D1 player, he needs to be able to handle that pressure.
He still has the confidence to attack the defense, and he had a nice catch and shoot after running the baseline last night. He just needs to stop missing the bunnies; hopefully that comes soon.
Just to be clear, I want him on the floor - but he needs to help himself stay out there!

I agree White makes way too many bonehead plays- he is shooting 27% for the year.. mainly because he has horrible shot selection. I'm all for a kid getting confidence, but I agree with Big Fan-- kid has to earn that time and he hasn't done that- and again I'm another that WANTS White on floor...but kid has to get his head out of his a$$. Until then carry on with way Jimmy has handled it-- all part of the learning process Siena fans. Maurice is too talented not to finally 'get" the message, I'm guessing he gets it sooner rather than later

We need to solidify 2g spot. Four guys basically playing it and sometimes a 5th in Poole. Need white and Audu to make a leap given how athletic they are. Evan will play as much as his shot is falling and he hustles on defense. Could be 25 minutes one game and 8 the next

I see us playing a bunch of those guys for awhile - it could be tough finding the best mix - a balance of different skills vs. stretches of playing time w/out being yanked. Hopefully, the competition at that spot makes everybody step up. Need to see what December brings and how things shake out. The break after next weekend will be good for these guys. And let's see what Audu can bring after being out for so long. He showed stretches of very good aggressive play, let's see if he can keep that up.

1. No matter how talented these freshmen are .. they are still freshmen!! Bone head mistakes are part of learning the college game-it takes time. And it's not like they have it easy- Siena is playing arguably one of the tougher schedules among mid-majors.
2. Remember Fran's team went 0-3 in the old spice.. And I'm all his boys had their far share of crappy offensive numbers, turnovers.. and bone head mistakes.
3. I would expect Audu, Oliver and White will all be fine once MAAC play starts!!!

To me, the 2G is WIDE OPEN, even for an incoming freshman next year. Don' think that's not a recruiting/selling point in an attempt to bring in a stud shooting guard with immediate PT available.
We sorely need a dependable perimeter scorer for Wright to team with. I'm just not sure he's on this years roster.

I would not give up on "Chalky" White yet... he is super athletic and has the talent to be very good in the MAAC. But I do get what you are saying we need a SG that has athletic ability who also can shoot. If White improves his shot selection he very well could be that guy. Cole will help next year for sure and probably will start probably at SG. I don't know if Jimmy will sign another SG... probably another PG (Taplin?) and maybe a post player who can shoot the ball.

At 6 3 he couldn't clear the rim .... He's way to athletic to be missing dunks and layups. Just a thought. We play defense rather poorly. Period. Too many times getting beat off the dribble and way too many fouls. Until we get this straightened out we're at risk to lose I don't care if we score 75. We don't shoot the ball well from the outside. I'd try and get Bisping Long & Wright a few more looks. It couldn't hurt.

I'm not sure if any can be a long term starter that can be a complete player and give us the points we need from this position. I think White eventually will be a scorer, I don't know if he will ever be a shooter.

Cole can't shoot. He can play though. We NEED shooters. I like White, but he's a sub for a great team. We need a lights out shooter to help everyone elses game out. Once you get shooters, it keeps defenses honest, opens up lanes for drivers, and lets post players avoid double teams. Right now, we don't have a single great shooter. Getting at least one should be a priority. If he can play the point too in a pinch, that would be a bonus.

Let it be known that Jimmy was in White's face for this game. He yelled at him for not passing the ball and missing shots. He said to him "play with confidence."
Also, he yelled at Bisping and Silas at the end of the game when a Saint Joes player dunked the ball. He said they should have been out there.
Man, he is brutal but hopefully the kids are learning.

A great shooter would be nice (i.e. Scott Knapp) but Fran's great teams really did not have one either unless you want to count Tay who was a senior on the first of the three MAAC championship teams. This schedule is brutal but the good thing is it will prepare us for the conference slate and show us (and most importantly the coaching staff) what we need to get back to being an elite mid-major program nationally.
