No and yes. I have seen several of his games last year, including the States, and one this year. Never said someone (or I) didn't think he could play D-1. You and I are on the same page. I think he can play D1 - but I don't think he fits the bill for where I see Siena going. My comparison (and I clearly didn't state it well) is that Wincowski gets all the North Country hype yet even though the skill set might be different, Jones is playing in the same league....just saying that some of the 'numbers' comes from whatever both has to dominate other players in a conference of very small schools. Your exact words were "none of us thinks he could be effective playing D1", so that's how I took it. Wincowski gets the North Country hype because he deserves it. Jones may start to get more as it plays out, but his team was absolutely horrible last year. He needs to prove he can sustain this level on a decent team. At this point, he hasn't proven nearly what Wincowski has.

My bad, I also called Jones a former classmate of Wincowski. He is actually a Senior this year. They were teammates when Wincowski was an 8th grader on the Hartford varsity.

My exact words were not "none of us thinks he could be effective playing D1" I said it matters WHO (as in JP and the other 4 offering schools) think so. Again, I am pretty sure we are on the same page here.

you are out of context. I am trying to say any board posters who can't offer the kid a scholarship to Siena (or any other school) can have their opinions but it is those who can extend the scholarship offers (WHO) that matter. I never meant to imply that anyone thought or said he wasn't D-1 material. Guess I drank too much of the wine I put into my bracciole and sauce today!

Some more productive recruiting information
Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga has a junior power forward to watch in 6-foot-8 Sam Miller. He has good size at 6-foot-8, can shoot a jumper and is a good rebounder. He was limited by foul troubles but managed 20 points and six rebounds in just 17 minutes during Gonzaga's loss to Chicago (Ill.) St. Rita's. Miller says he has offers from American, Penn State, Rutgers, Loyola (Md.), Monmouth and Siena. Maryland, Virginia, Xavier, Notre Dame, Boston College, Virginia Tech and others have shown interest.

I got it now, was explaining how I read the quote. All any of us here can do on any topic is offer an opinion, so I'm not sure now if you mean we should all stop posting or what? LOL

If we all stop posting, it will certainly be a boring place! We are all passionate fans so there is a good common thread here, even if we agree to disagree or don't communicate well exactly what we are trying to say!

I for one would appreciate it if the back and forth opinions were in separate "discussion" threads and the recruiting thread be left for new recruiting info and not the opinions on the potential of the recruits. Just my opinion.

We are all passionate fans so there is a good common thread here, even if we agree to disagree or don't communicate well exactly what we are trying to say! Couldn't agree more. Communication is a two way street. Sometimes it's worth a little extra effort to try and understand not only what is said but how it might be taken by those not fully in agreement with what or how something is said. The he said/she said literal back and forth gets tedious and has proven to be pointless. I'd much rather hear opposing views absent significant arguments on why those particular views are held. That type of atmosphere would, IMO, allow all sides of the coin to be seen and evaluated. The fact that our coaches are investing time and treasure in these kids speaks way more than the views of fans who have seen kids play once, twice or over their full careers. This freshman class is one of the few where we didn't discover after classes start that we have "projects" to work with, some of them major. That speaks volumes about Jimmy's basketball eye and recruiting skills.

Meanwhile we are actually recruiting an UP recruit in Sam Miller. Now we can go back to the idiotic conversations

Just my opinion. The problem with that is that a lot of members don't read all the threads and just start new ones every 10 minutes. Then you have 30 threads about each player and recruit and nobody knows anyone else's opinion. Either way the board becomes unreadable.

Very interesting. Elijah Burns & Miller being offered ships for same position. Wonder if this is to motivate Burns into committing or if Siena knows Burns isn't coming & looking for next SF available or simply going after another good player regardless of ships available / Burns' decision. What's the odds both decide to come?

What's the odds both decide to come? The post says Miller is a PF and you listed Burns as a SF. I thought Burns was more of a PF at LaSalle but I'm not sure now. Are these guys really the same position?

I don't know anything about Burns or Miller. Just going by what Verbal commits.com list them as (SFs). If they're both (PFs) my comment remains the same. Going after two guys at same position.
