"We've had coaches in for open gyms and he still is the same kid. Joel plays the game and does his job. He is very task-orientated and team-orientated," Jones said. "That is what we really like about him."
love it

could he be a better version of Mike Beers That's actually not a bad comparison. I think he's slightly more athletic than Beers and will probably be a little bigger. I'm still not sure he's the best fit for Siena. It will depend on how the current players develop and who comes in next year. If everyone stayed there for the next 2 years there would be Sr's Oliver and Audu, Jr's Wright, White , and Cole, and possibly Soph's Taplin and Gottfried in the backcourt. That's 7, way too many. Of course, we don't know about Taplin or Gottfried and others could leave, but right now, I'd be concentrating on bigs.

Sorry, still don't think a 'better version of Mike Beers' is going to fit with Siena's plan to upgrade recruits allowing a move to a higher level. I think he needs tougher AAU competition than the North Country team. He will continue to stand out in HS against others in the league he is in. Did see the sectionals last year, but still not convinced that overall level can be maintained against a full plate of more talented competition all season. Just MHO.

Mike Beers was a good player on good MAAC teams. I have no problem with a better version and apparently neither does Jimmy. That being said, I've said all along I don't think he fits Siena's needs. Honestly, I hope he ends up at UAlbany.

Wincowski is still a puppy and he has some serious game. Go watch Jimmer on youtube with the City Rocks as a junior - this kid is right there and is even a little bigger. You don't pass on kids like that at this level - has similar stroke to Knapp and Jimmer, meaning when he lets it go you know it is going in. Siena would be fortunate to keep this kid local. Give him an understudy year behind Wright - and hand him the keys as a sophomore. I'm very impressed with the kids playmaking and shotmaking - for a 15 year old its off the charts. If he doesnt wind up at Siena, we'll all be wishing he did in a few years.

@4guysinblazers: RT @demathahoops: Per HC Jimmy Patsos, Siena will offer 2015 PG Terrell Allen when they speak this week.

I really wish he could have moved up in class this year. The C and D teams in the Adirondack League can't contend with him. The only player close is his former Hartford classmate, Tad Jones. They are tied for area scoring lead at 29.8 right now.

And Jones is playing just as well as Wincowski against the same level of competition. I too wish he moved up in competition as I have said in the past; not just with school league, but also with AAU.

I wouldn't say Jones is playing as well. He doesn't have the same role as Wincowski, he can't handle like Wincowski, or shoot like him. Jones is bigger and able to physically dominate Adirondack players. That's what gives him the best chance in the league of slowing down Wincowski. Jones is a 6'5" post player on a decent D team. Wincowski is a 6'3" point guard on the defending State Champs, currently ranked #1 in the state in Class C.

Of course you wouldn't but remember Wincowski's handle and shooting are also affected by the lack of talent that can guard him regularly....we are so focused on what the kid scores every game I for one think it's comical. What matters is WHO (none of us, by the way) thinks he could potentially be effective playing D1 college ball with playing HS and AAU ball at a lower level of competition than say, kids from NYC, Philly and B'more as his preparation for that challenge. Not sure that translates into success at the next level, especially if we make a move to a better league - but then again, in my family I am not the BBALL talent scout Just MHO.

Has Prosper actually watched Joel play? Or have you? Because there are at least 5 D1 coaches who have offered him scholarships, so apparently someone thinks he can play D1. Do you actually know about the "level" he plays in AAU? He doesn't play for the City Rocks, so what? Jimmer Fredette didn't until after his junior year, either. Now , I've said repeatedly, I don't want Wincowski at Siena. That doesn't mean he can't play at this level. As for focusing on what he scores, most area media only publishes those numbers. I for one never "focused" on them or mentioned them until you said Tad Jones was playing as well as Wincowski.

No and yes. I have seen several of his games last year, including the States, and one this year. Never said someone (or I) didn't think he could play D-1. You and I are on the same page. I think he can play D1 - but I don't think he fits the bill for where I see Siena going.
My comparison (and I clearly didn't state it well) is that Wincowski gets all the North Country hype yet even though the skill set might be different, Jones is playing in the same league....just saying that some of the 'numbers' comes from whatever both has to dominate other players in a conference of very small schools.
