Davidson doesn't really fit the A-10 profile in my opinion or at least not nearly as well as Siena does. So at least for now I am not buying it!

Snag, I get the disappointment at the timing, but is being in the A-10 a prerequisite for having season tickets after we had MAAC tickets for years. Hey I want to go to the A-10 as much as the next guy and I think the A-10 move is a good thing, but I will continue my season tickets. The alternative is UA and the AE. I'll stick with Siena. I guess it could be argued it is a "protest" against the administration, but I still believe that the A-10 is still the goal and once the offer is made it will be accepted. I guess I am an optimist and I hope a realistic one. Patsos is a great salesman so I wouldn't bet against it.

I think this is an effort to try and keep VCU and Richmond in the A10....closer than the northern schools of Siena, bus ride much easier than through the DC traffic....I don't think this goes on any of the administration, the A10 does not want to loose VCU as that is the school it is going to hang its hat on now that Butler and Xavier are gone

If Davidson gets the nod over Siena I'll be VERY dissappointed. I'll also be more than a little pissed that D'Arg and the admin didn't address the Mitch error MUTCH sooner. *If* we get passed over, it will be primarily because of this 3-year disaster. Let's face it, after this round of conference realignment there probably won't be much significant movement for many years. Monmouth and Quinnipiac. F*ing yippee. PS: I'd love to see which schools voted for that expansion. Wow.

I will be getting my season tickets too but I also understand where snagglepuss is coming from. The problem is it could become a self-fulfilling prophesy if more people drop their season tickets as one of the attractions to Siena is its large fan base. If we are staying in the maac for an extended period, Siena is going to have to get creative to bring the fans back (and keep the ones they have) as the quality of the product has gone down tremendously over the past three years (and not just because of the coach formerly known as the program wrecker).

I agree-- but Siena apparently gets itself into long term contracts that it can't get out of, then needles its fan base with "morality"-- meanwhile players who seemlngly do not embody these values continue to darken the cloud hanging over the program even as Patsos shines the light.

That's interesting, the A-10 fans seem to think 14 is a more permanent number. So if SLU and Dayton do leave for the Big East, Siena would be on deck maybe with Charleston to join Davidson and the current members. It would be great if Siena could share a conference with national liberal arts institutions like Richmond and Davidson.

does this really make sense?
1.7 million mens basketball budget. this would have to double. 10 million athletic budget 1,756 enrollment.
they are almost 4.5 hours from just Richmond (VCU). Six hours from Washington DC. Over 9 hours from NY City.

We all know that the problems with Siena bsketball are directly connected to a poor administation. As much as I hate to admit it the B of T also is a laid back group that appears not to be involved. Siena can build the new practice facility, renovate the MAC, etc.,, but the key will always be the HC.
We can only hope that JP rights the ship, and that Siena gets an invite next year when other members of the A-10 leave.

Travel budget may go up but I assume revenues also increase because of larger pie to share among schools...

Long time lurker - first time poster.
I'm not sure who this A10BBall guy is over at the A-10 forum but I have to hold out hope that what he is saying regarding Siena getting the summer invitation has some validity to it. I do not think there is a national conspiracy to enrage the Siena fan base by producing false reports that the school is under consideration to join the A-10. Coach Patsos has been very open about it, CBS has reported it multiple times (including this current Davidson report), Jon Rothstein has reported it, John Feinstein has reported it and plenty of unknown sources have as well in various chat rooms and forums. I think it's all legit. I don't believe that SienaSal is smart enough to pull off a gag of this magnitude.

Travel budget may go up but I assume revenues also increase because of larger pie to share among schools... I’m kind of surprised you don’t know this Dog..A lot of requirements in the A10 that smaller conference’s don’t have. Take the DBO—in smaller conference teams that position is part time. In the A10 it has to be full time for both the men’s and women’s teams. Many of these requirements are across the board in many sports not only basketball. Recruiting budget has to go up, Davidson will be recruiting a different type athletes, and the Cats have very strict academic requirements for their incoming athletes, maybe they loosen them? But anyhow without boring anyone those are a few things that change, besides the obvious double or tripling of the travel budget. The avg A10 budget is about 3.4 or 3.5 Million for men’s basketball. So while their budget might not double—there is absolutely no question it will increases substantially. As the southernmost school in the conference Davidson’s travel budget would be most expensive in conference, and lost class time the maximum. Will be interesting to see what happens to their ticket prices.. Davidson get decent attendance ( about 4K) but their most expensive court side seat is 20 bucks. And with only 1700 students the money for the A10 has to be coming from somewhere. Make no mistake about it- this is a substantial "step" up financially for Davidson

I don't think the realignment wave will end so quickly. I also think that Siena has real strengths that would attract a conference like the A-10 regardless of what He Who Shall Remain Nameless did to the program.
That said it is not up to D'Arg, A10BBallblogger or us. So we sit and hope that all that smoke leads to some fire.

I, along with most of the posters here are basketball fans as well as Siena fans and that is the reason most want a move to the A10. As basketball fans we just want to see a better quality of the game. The crowds we would have when a quality team came to the "Knick","Pepsi", "TUC" were proof of that. As a basketball-Siena fan I hope we are still in the running.
