Saints start league play with the historically rough Western NY road trip. A Friday-Sunday series with MAAC foes, Niagara and Canisius. Niagara is on the front end of this road trip, Purple Eagles currently 3-5 on the season. Niagara has two good guards with Adelodun and Williamson, keep these two in check and Saints should see positive results. Saints can surpass last year’s 4 win season with a victory on Friday.

Let’s not keep dwelling on last year. That whole thing was a disaster and it’s best relegated to the dustbin of history. This is a new team, and I still think we can finish first, second or third in the MAAC, and then we’ll see what happens come tournament time.

Even with excellent teams over the years Siena coaches always thought coming out with a 1-1 record from the western trip to Buffalo was pretty good. This should be a good challenge for GMAC and Company. Let's hope for at least a good showing on this trip this week-end. This team's progress is going to be interesting to follow for sure.

Saints need to clean up the turnovers, currently at 13.9 per game. The only team with a lower A\TO ranking in the MAAC is Iona. Looking past the A\TO ratio, guard play and offensive and defensive production for the Saints has improved from last year.
Team needs another good effort from Shoats. Currently, Shoats led Siena in scoring three times, 31 points against over Bryant, team’s second-leading scorer (14.3 points per game) and leads in assists (3.1) and steals (1.6). He is shooting 41.2% from the floor, 50.0% for 3-point attempts and 67.4% from the line. Includes 31 minutes per game, second highest on the team. I’ll be curious if he’s locked into the starting lineup this weekend.
Siena 26th in the country in blocks per game, led by Peter Carey at number 40 in the country with 15 and Wilmouth at 104, with 11. Hopefully Carey is fully recovered from that ankle injury, also need Carey to stay out of foul trouble.

Yes, but most of those years either Niagara or Canisius were really good and the other was solid. This year they are both terrible, especially Canisius. If Siena wants to be in the hunt for regular season MAAC title they need a sweep here. Friday is really the key, win that one and you've got a great shot at the sweep and know you are at least going home with the split. Lose Friday and all the pressure is on Sunday to avoid the sweep.

Let's start with baby steps. Siena needs a sweep to help getting to 10-10 before we think of top three. If you don't sweep the weaker teams, you have to "steal" a game or two from the top teams. I admit that may be a moot point this year because I don't think the MAAC has any dominant teams. Any MAAC team can beat their MAAC competition on any night.

Until proven impossible, I'm still banking on 8-0 against the bottom 4 teams. If they do that and wind up 10-10 I will be pretty disappointed. But they need to take advantage of the unbalanced schedule working in their favor this season and that starts this weekend.

Based on early season results, I have no idea who is actually good in the back. Some decent wins, some bad losses, some non D1 wins and what looks like a whole lot of mediocrity.
Looks to me like a season where there will be a bunch of teams right around the 10 to 12 conference win mark.

It would seem that the Western NY swing is there for the taking, based on what we've seen so far from Niagara and Canisius...but I have been to far too many of the games out here in WNY and left disappointed. I don't know what it is, both play in glorified high school gyms, in front of sparse crowds, and all they do is beat us. Let's hope GMac is the difference and can do what the previous three or four coaches struggled to do...sweep WNY
