Maybe Toole insists that if he comes to Siena he wants him for an assistant . I would think that assistants would be interviewed also.

Ocasional a AD will ask incoming coach to hire a hold over-- but generally speaking the new coach picks his staff Young coaches are often told they have to hire certain veteran assistants. And often in recent years, veteran head coaches have been told they have to fire certain assistants and hire certain others. It's probably 90-95% on the head coach, but not entirely.

I think that the head coach picks his assistants, but it is not unprecedented for them to be interviewed by the AD and others as well. Especially in a situation where the head coach has 3 years as a head coach (Toole) or 0 years (Rhoades).
