I have to say I’m a bit underwhelmed by this staff. One guy who spent one year as an assistant at Washington after being the DBO for one year. Another guy who is a high school coach and a third guy who is an assistant high school coach. With GMac never having been a head coach before, I would have liked to have seen an experienced guy as the lead assistant with some strong east coast recruiting contacts and possibly some college head coaching experience.

Looks like a solid staff with a good mix of coaching and playing experience. They all seem to have the potential to be impactful mentors to the players. They also have varied connections to prep/HS programs that will help on the recruiting side. Onuaku should certainly help the front court players in individual skill development. He and the strength and conditioning guy have work to do. I think with five more scholarships to give, 4 need to be PGs and wings but one should be filled with a mature/powerful PF/C type player. I believe every team needs a bruiser to match up with opposing big men. It may not be necessary every night in the MAAC but will be against up competition.

This is a big time hire. This staff is far superior to the Saint's prior one. The commitment by the College is clearly there for the basketball program. Where are all the naysayers who were posting that Siena no longer cared about Men's basketball, were moving down to D2 and would be playing in the ARC? The future looks bright. Go Saints!

Still right here, happily enjoying the ride. Think you are being naive though if you really think Siena delaying the Carm firing a week was strategic planning and not that they were on the course of a downward spiral until outside money stepped in and demanded the change.

Not at all, I completely understand how this went down, and credit to President Seifert for stepping in, taking control of the situation and making the right decisions. I think what was naive is thinking he was not going to do the right thing for the program and the College.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I would like to believe that the naysayers and Debby Downers were a large part in the impetus for change. The fanatics, like IndianSaint were the backbone that held it all together.

The bottom line is that these guys took one look at that arena over the last half of the season and realized that the program was no longer sustainable under Carm. It was in serious trouble, fans were not coming back. Anyhow, it’s good to have the staff finalized and announced. IMO solid hires & from everything I’ve read all are really high character well respected guys. I like GMac's thought process here of going with people he’s familiar with and can trust. This is the best overall staff we’ve had here in well over a decade!

Water under the bridge but I really believe it was as simple as they wanted to wait until after the MAAC tournament (which is antiquated) and the president was on vacation. Season ended March 13. Carm gone March 20. Now that doesn’t mean the money people didn’t demand a change because they did. But the president (Chuck Seifert) wanted a change too. Only the AD didn’t and he’s a lame duck at this point. As far as the staff goes would have liked to see more midmajor experience and GMAC is relying on Ben Lee for a lot as his top guy. He’s a local guy and well thought of but only like 27 years old. Ryan Blackwell has HC experience though which is nice for a first time HC even if it’s HS and overseas. Arinze Onuaku has some DC connections with Gonzaga prep HS and he’s our big man coach.

Lack of an older guy on the staff now a problem for the perfectionists. Bobby C. faulted daily on this forum. Mike Deane is happily retired. Mitch, a great person by the way might be available. What's wrong with a young staff with good higher level experience. It's a fact of life that folks in their forties and younger have a hell of a lot more energy.

I think this staff may be one of the best we have had in a long time. Great group with good skills working with kids. I love it, love the kids being brough in already, a new era has begun. Get on board or stay off, lets go Saints!

It is his job on the line and as HC he gets to choose.
