Looks like a nice all around player although not a big scorer. His PER jumped from 9.2 as a freshman to 15.6 as a sophomore that you like to see. By comparison, Eley was third on Siena last year in PER at 13.7. Hopefully a guy that wants to stick around and be a nice piece of the puzzle for two years.

Good depth guy. Quality guard behind Thomas and Marshall last year with.

Still a lot of questions there concerning Smith coming around, Carey staying healthy, Coyle and Jackson’s growth and Brafford most likely still being a year out for development.

I would expect Ojo to make a sophomore jump, he’s shown flashes already.

Six spots left we definitely need 3-4 difference makers and more guard depth. I’d like to see some proven scorers and proven shooters.

Here is a stats per 40 minutes comparison of Jackson and Billups both as sophomores:

Points - Billups 10.0 to 9.9
Rebounds - Jackson 8.5 to 8.1
Assists - Jackson 3.3 to 2.2
Steals - Jackson 2.6 to 1.4
Blocks - Tied at 1.2
Turnovers - Tied at 2.2
Fouls - Billups much better at 3.5 to 5.8
2 PT % - Jackson 64.0% to 35.8%
3 PT % - Jackson 41.7% to 26.5%
FT% - Billups 71.8% to 64.3%

So Billups had the tiniest of edges in scoring but Jackson's shot selection was significantly better. Biggest knock is the fouls. He needs to improve there is he's ever going to be more than a 15 to 20 MPG guy. If he does, I think he could be more than just a rotational piece if surrounded by a bunch of scorers.

Billups game wasn’t and isn’t offense. He’s a lock down tough defender. Jackson is a pretty good defender and plays hard. He’ll be in the rotation/mix but we still need scores and shooters.

Jackson's efficiency ratings were much better than Eley last year. He is a good addition. Shoots well from three. To me it looks like a good commit and it reinforces the City Rocks/Jim Hart connection. Wilmoth and Jackson look to me like "referrals" from Hart and that may pay dividends in the future with City Rocks recruits. "Favors" given and be reciprocated in the future. Those "favors" may not be a one sided benefit, both players will likely contribute positively so it is a win/win.

Your comparing a small guard and a forward. Watched Jackson for 2 years at UA. He plays out of control a lot. Reason for his high foul count.

Keep lining up the bigs and the guards will come. There are a lot more quality guards than there are bigs.

I'm comparing two players that aren't big scorers but fill up the stat sheets in a lot of different ways. Billups is what, two inches taller? Positions are an archaic idea in basketball. As long as you've got 5 guys out there that aren't too small or too slow you will be fine regardless of what position they are listed as.

Billups is a 6'4" guard on the official George Mason roster. Jackson is a 6'2" guard. Both rebound and block shots well for their size.

41-26 are the differentiating numbers I care about in this comparison. Interested to see the rest of the 3 pt shooters GMac brings in.

Jackson actually started 18 of the 20 games he played last year.

He's not much of shooter. His game is getting to the hole, and playing tough defense. Nice 3rd guard.
