Congrats to the new coach Mac. I got to give credit to the new Siena Admin under President Seiferts leadership. They made the decision to change leadership of the program and made the investment to get their top candidate and set him up for success in two weeks. Excited to see roster construction, summer workouts, and start of season. Expecting we will need to open second level seating at MVP shortly Relief and total excitement! I have been so depressed over this debacle we have been living for the past two years. I don't think it is a stretch to say that it's unhealthy to constantly deal with negativism. It certainly can't be good for anyone, including Carm. Are we guaranteed success with Coach Mac? Of course not. But, I like the way he talks and handles himself. You can even understand what the hell he is talking about. I'm so looking forward to seeing so many familiar faces, even if I don't personally know you. It used to have that fraternal feeling at every game. Best of luck to Coach Mac. I think he will turn this program around in a fairly quick manner.

Laura M posted that the NC State coach has one bad year and he was allowed to continue. I refrained by saying and Carm never made tourney let alone Elite 8

I came across this post on a Syracuse message board. Anyone know how accurate it is? It would definitely explain the delay. Very promising if true and the admin got it done. “Behind the scenes he negotiated a great deal like a seasoned veteran. One of my friends is very very close to Coach Will Brown. Coach Brown knew that Gerry was Siena’s #1 choice, but also Gerry required “4 or 5 things” including a set amount specifically for NIL that even he wasn’t sure would get done. Apparently that is what has taken the last 3-4 days to finalize. Will Brown told my friend that he might become Siena’s coach almost out of default if they didn’t agree to all of Gerry’s needs/wants! Ultimately great for Gerry!!!“ syracusefan.com/threads/gmac-to-siena-official.180813/page-23#post-5028454It wasn't that dramatic. These Syracuse fans glazing Siena's new head coach is unbecoming.

His tenure steadily went downhill. Year 3: C....Year 4: D+....Year 5: F

Personally, I think hiring GMac is a home run for Siena. I understand how the men’s team play next season will indicate how good a coach Gmac ultimately is but it may take a couple of years to get there. If he is that good a coach and recruiter with the right assistant coaches Siena will get right back to the top level of the MAAC quickly. Unfortunately that would mean he will be gone quickly if he gets Siena there. But that is why he was hired. Get us there, get fans back to the arena, and hopefully to the dance in March. I was not planning on renewing my season tickets after 40 years but with this hire I plan on renewing my tickets and looking forward to a new beginning with Siena Basketball. Maybe it’s the name or where he is coming from but no coach hiring has had me looking forward to next season like this hire. Go Siena and Gmac!!

With the portal the way it is, I think he can turn this around next year. He's going to bring in some very good talent.

With the portal the way it is, I think he can turn this around next year. He's going to bring in some very good talent. 19 years ago when Fran took over you expected to gradually build it back up. Transfers had to sit then and frosh at the midmajor level were rarely impact guys certainly not dominant players. But now every season is try and win a championship. At least half the guys will be gone after each season so building for the future doesn’t really work unless you’re just bringing in new better guys each year. Hopefully GMAC uses all 13 scholarships. I wouldn’t take more than 3 frosh. 10 portal/JUCO players - some one year grad transfers and some under grad transfers.

I suspect the non renewal of many long term season ticket holders played a big part in the decision. Glad to hear so many renewing their tickets but I encourage everyone to also consider what ever size donation you can make to the NIL so we can attract some of the available talent in the portal. Every little bit helps- the President and probably a lot of important boosters helped make this happen so let’s do our part as passionate long term fans of Siena basketball.

I like it a lot. He graduated from Union where he played so he gets the importance of the program to the area. Was recruiting coordinator for UW and before that responsible for assessing prospects in the portal. Let’s go and finish the staff
