Just for fun, here's the final four for each tournament this year... NCAA TBD NIT Baylor (Big 12), BYU (West Coast Conference) Maryland (ACC), Iowa (Big Ten) CIT Evansville (Missouri Valley), East Carolina (Conference USA) Weber State (Big Sky), Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley) CBI...(Championship is between George Mason, Santa Clara) George Mason (CAA), W. Michigan (MAC) Santa Clara (West Coast Conference), Wright State (Horizon) So it looks like it will be East Carolina versus Weber State in the CIT finals. The Championship is Tuesday, APril 2 at 8 pm, if you can tear yourself away from the start of the baseball season. Weber State has won 17 out of 18 games with the lone loss costing them a berth in the NCAA tournament. I expect them to make it 18 out of 19 to close out their bittersweet season. The George Mason Santa Clara series starts on Monday, continues on Wednesday, and then if necessary concludes on Friday. The NIT semifinals are on Tuesday, with rooting interests in both games (Mid major BYU and Iowa). The finals are on Thursday. Finally, the Final four will be Wichita State, Louisville, Syracuse and Michigan, of course starting Saturday and concluding on Monday. Throw the Siena coaching search in the mix and its going to be an interesting week of basketball!

For the record, East Carolina won the CIT. Santa Clara took two out three in the CBI. Baylor destroyed Iowa in the Garden. And of course, Michigan will meet Louisville in the NCAA championship.
Note that both higher scoring teams won their final four games. As reported previously, the champion has averaged 73 or more points since 1999, 13 in a row. Make that 14.
So we know a high scoring team will win this year. But who? Both of these schools have not won a national championship since the 1980s. Louisville last won in 1986, while Michigan beat Seton Hall in 1989. I'm sticking with Louisville, as no team seeded 4 or lower has won the championship since 1997 (4 seed Arizona) and only 4 times since seeding started in 1979.
Teams seeded 4 or lower that have won the championship:
Arizona 1997 (4) Kansas 1988 (6) Villanova 1985 (8) NC State 1983 (6)

Note that both higher scoring teams won their final four games. Is that how it works?
