Mason is Carm...when Carm was on Fran's team. Mason would be fine, maybe even pretty good on Fran's team...as a 9th or 10th player. He's put up 20+ at least twice this season. Again, not saying he's a starter but he's alright. The issue is he's needed to be a starter. Mason is 10th on this terrible team in Player Efficiency Rating, he would not be 9th or 10th man on just about any Siena team in history. Scary thing is despite being the 10th most efficient player he is 2nd in minutes and could still wind up 1st. He's a good shooter when left wide open but is a massive liability on the defensive end. Here are Siena's rankings in defense during Carm's tenure: 2019-2020 - 130th 2020-2021 - 24th 2021-2022 - 181st 2022-2023 - 91st 2023-2024 - 275th A huge part of the reason for that drop-off is walk-ons playing so many minutes. Kyle Winters is Carm's new co-fave, he's 11th on the team in player efficiency. Both of them are good walk-ons that can put up points if given the minutes while giving up a ton of points on the defensive ends. These are the guys we should be cheering on getting buckets at the end of blow out wins, not guys that should be playing regular minutes. Well said Scott. Plus if I am the opposing coach I am going to let Winters and Courtney get their shots and focus on defending the other 3 that are on the court with them. They can get their points but no way Saints win with them being the leading scorers. Opposing coaches are baiting Carm into playing those two and he takes the bait every time. Also look at Mason's shooting percentage (both from 2 & 3) and his assist to turnover ratios, not good.

He should be playing intramurals on Wednesday nights at the ARC.

And the offense is even worse. Courtney and Winters can score if left alone but get abused on defense —see the Manhattan game in the second half. Both can be good practice players as walkons but they’re not D1 caliber players. The odds of a kid turning into a Jordan King is very rare. If Conor Fenlon got the minutes Courtney and Winters got he’d put some points too.

I'll be going to the final home game because Siena is having an alumni event at the MVP. If it wasn't Niagara I wouldn't be there.

Steven Lazar better start and get some playing time tonight.
From the TU Article today:
[While the home crowd will undoubtedly be rooting for Lazar to get into the scoring column, it’s not clear how much of an opportunity he’ll get. Saints coach Carmen Maciariello said he hasn’t decided whether to give Lazar his first career start.
“If he does, it’ll be quick,” Maciariello said. “Use a foul, set a great screen, get somebody a shot. But we’ll see. Just trying to build, to keep playing good basketball and get ready for tomorrow night and then Saturday and then Tuesday.”]

The one saving grace to this giant turd pile of a season would be to do everything he can to get Lazar a point tonight.

It's an inconsequential game, so give the only senior substantial playing time. Start him, play him and play him some more. Give him something to remember. Why not?

Such disrespect towards the young man. I dont get it, he needs to be gone.

Out of all the dumb, ignorant, deflection, things Carm has ever said, this one…“If he does, it’ll be quick,” Maciariello said. “Use a foul, set a great screen, get somebody a shot”….is the worst thing that fool has ever said! As far as I can tell Lazar has done nothing but show up to practice knowing he won’t play, do a good job in the classroom, represent the team/school in a class manner, and now he is going to embarrass the kid by saying I may start him but if I do I’ll have to get him out as quick as possible so he doesn’t screw up my chance for a 5th win? This is why Carm is an awful leader, putting himself before his players and the team. If I were the players and Carm try’s to pull him out within a minute I would walk off the court and not go back in until he put him back in.

What is there to think about? I cannot recall the last time a senior did not start on "senior night" for Siena. I've watched Larzar cheer his teamates on for 4 years. A fine young man! For Carm to make this type of statement just shows what a condescending person he is. "Just trying to build". Build on what? the worst season in the history of Siena basketball! Lazar should start, play extended minutes and enjoy his time in the limelight.

Like many others on here. I too have been thinking Carm's statements reflect his arrogance. But the more he speaks the more I think his statements are are a reflection of his lack of intelligence and how much he is clearly in over his head as Siena's HC. His words demonstrate that he is just not the bright. Today is usually a sad day for me, the last home game of the season, but on this day I am actually glad is is the last home game and closer to this disaster of season being over. Go Aints!

Big game tonight. Must win situation. Its amazing how out of touch this guy is.

I haven't been to a game all season but am leaning towards going tonight just to make sure Carm gets an earful if he doesn't start Lazar and make sure he gets in the scoring column.
