Anyone watching Purdue-Marquette? I know, is like Wonderbread vs Saltines in the championship of an exotic foods bracket but this has been a really good game.

For the uninitiated, Purdue hit a 70 footer at the first half buzzer to go 7 for 9 from 3 in the first half. Marquette under Shaka Smart has made it close. What I love is that Shaka and Marquette are counting deflections instead of steals. I remember reading that from either George Karl's biography or Life on the Rim. Whichever it was, George was all about deflections rather than steals. Steals are fluky but if you can deflect enough passes then you not only get the steals but you also disrupt the offensive rhythm.

Everything going against Marquette and they are down 1 with 45 seconds left. I want a Shaka Smart disciple as the next Siena coach.

The new #1 is Purdue, your 2024 National Champion is Marquette. You heard it here first.

that was an incredible game. those marquette guards are scary as hell. i am a purdue fan, so have been watching them for the past few years, and the biggest difference in Purdue from last year to this is that they would NEVER have handled the pressure like that in years past. but Smith and that transfer #55 can this year, even with some turnovers. I'd submit marquette will cause a lot of them no matter what type of guards they face. that said, marquette looks good enough to win it all, i agree. scary, scary team.
