Siena Men’s Golf Team starting the season strong. After taking 1st place in the Cornell Invitational beating 10 other team, they followed that performance up with a 3rd place finish in the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington (beating 14 other teams); and finally finishing 2nd in last week’s UConn Invitational at GREATHORSE (beating out 12 other teams and only losing to UConn).
Siena has beaten every MAAC team who’s played in each of these tournaments. While I can say I do not know the level of competition of the other colleges, it’s looking pretty good that they may capture another MAAC Championship this year. I know anything can happen during the season but they seem to be playing extremely well.
Let’s look at this last tournament as an example. Siena shot the 2nd lowest team total for a single day’s rounds (289 on that last day). Siena lead (1st place) after the first day’s round with 290 (three teams including UConn were tied for 2nd with 292). If it weren’t for Siena’s sort of collapse/bad 2nd day’s round of 300, who knows the Saints may have put pressure on UConn just enough that the Saints could have won it all.
Looking at the other teams rounds/scores, Siena shot two of the three lowest rounds in the entire tournament 289 & 290. In fact only two other teams were able to shoot 290 (Iona and Holy Cross).
UConn shot the lowest round that 3rd day of 284.

Siena’s playing in the Lehigh Invitational (yesterday and today).
Man, I hope I didn’t jinx them yesterday.
I logged onto the live updates link around 3:00 yesterday afternoon (thinking that the day’s results might be almost finished) and saw Siena was tied for 1st with Monmouth (at +1) but most of the teams were only 70-80% finished with the first 9 holes.
I logged back on late last night to see Siena dropped down to a tie for 5th with Binghamton at +12.
My bad. Today I won’t check on them until it’s over so maybe they can move up a little and maybe finish in the top three. 🙂

I cheated/lied; I am following the live stats today and “Wow!” what an exciting tournament happening today.
First Siena, which started out tied for 5th, today was 3rd or tied for 3rd before falling back to tied for 5th before making its move (plus with the help of the teams ahead of them dropping).
Siena is currently tied for 2nd at +17 overall.
But the real news is the home team Lehigh “A” team who jumped 6 positions (from 7th yesterday) to 1st today (overtaking the Lehigh “B” team which lead yesterday and was leading most of the first 9 holes.
Exciting match today.

Lehigh A team completed its 2nd round at -3 (first team to finish today) +11 for the tournament and is in 1st place.
Siena, currently +19 for the tournament with a couple holes to go and sits in line 2nd place by one stroke over Towson.
While there’s a slim chance that Evansville and Lehigh B team statistically could catch Lehigh A team with 8-5 holes left; it looks like no one will catch that A team. Those two teams would have to shoot -11 or -12 to catch and surpass them.
Three teams could still unseat Siena from 2nd but it’s looking good for that too 3 finish for Siena.

Siena continues to distance itself from the 3rd place Lehigh B team by 4 strokes.
Siena still in 2nd, shooting the second lowest round of this second day +5, +17 overall (Lehigh B making move to +21 for 3rd thanks to Towson & Evansville imploding to +22 overall.
Siena’s +5 round is 2nd best for the day to Lehigh A teams outstanding -3. Even Rider will most likely hold onto the 3rd best round for today at +8 as long as they don’t implode the next couple holes (currently sits in 6th at +25).

Siena still in 2nd place overall, now has a three stroke lead over the 3rd place team Towson.
How about Siena’s Nolan Crowley currently 2nd overall individually for the tournament!!!
Congratulations Nolan Crowley!!!
Nolan shoots a 143, -1 overall, just misses a tie for 1st place with Lehigh’s David Hurly 142, -2 overall.
Also, how about Siena’s Mike McConie who shot an even 72 today moving up 26 spots to finish at 149 good for tied at 13th overall!!!
