....according to the T.U. is a finalist for the D-2 Edinboro (Pa) job.
Seems a little strange, no?

I think Brown was a very successful D-1 head coach, and is still in his prime. I thought for sure his name would be mentioned in the D-1 openings, not D-2.

He wants a hard coaching job so maybe this is what available and he works his way back up FDU, Manhattan & Quinnipiac were all open a few weeks ago. Never heard his name in any of them. Just seems strange a 50 yo coach that has been to the NCAA's like 5 times (?) isnt considered for anything? Anyone in the MAAC been to the dance 5 times?

He was a good coach but the ae was really Vermont and Albany much easier than the Maac. I think it's more that he would rather the security of the d2 while keeping busy than chasing big dollars.

Right - There's more to life - everybody's not a Rick Pitino. We know he didn't seem to look to rise too high in the ranks when he was very successful and in his 30s. Stayed in a decent job for about 20 years and will collect a nice pension. Wonder how old his kids are and where they are going to college or settling with their lives - could be a factor.

Guess it is hard to believe he is only 51 since he was coaching like a 51 year old twenty years ago. He's just not a sexy hire at the D1 level right now off being let go by an America East program. Can you imagine how disappointed any of the Quinny, Manhattan, and FDU fanbase would have been had they hired Will Brown? Now if he goes to D2 and builds something there then suddenly his name could start popping up for openings.

C'mon. You think FDU fanbase was stoked hiring a D-2 guy? You've seen the reaction on the other board from Manhattan fans. Guaranteed they'd be happier with Brown being hired. Him beating Vermont AND StonyBrook was always a tough task.
All the "he's not looking for bigger things" is nice, but that was because he wanted to stay local for his wife. His UA run was a great one for him and his family, but now wanting to pick up and move to Edinboro, Pa?
Sorry just seems strange to me.

For right or wrong, I think fans are more exited to hire a successful D2 coach than to hire a perceived failed low major D1 coach. Especially after Tobin Anderson! We all know Will Brown's accomplishments but if the D1 head coaching offers were out there then he would be coaching D1. The well was so dry last year that he opted not to coach the Patroons again so he could devote fulltime this year to lining up another college job. If after all that he winds up at D2 Edinboro then that was the best offer out there.

That has more NCAA appearances than ALL THE MAAC COACHES COMBINED. If thats perceived as a failure, what does that make the 11 coaches in the MAAC? lol

No one wants to hire that these days. With Tobin the hot new angle is hiring winning D2 coaches at the low and midmajor level. Like you said, his name wasn't even mentioned by any of those schools in their coaching search, that shows where his stock is right now. Hell, he could still get passed over by Edinboro!

Will Brown was a good AE coach. Nothing more, nothing less. I think the only "up" game he ever won was vs. Washington or Washington State. While he was a good coach he wasn't that "next level" kinda coach. He was a "get to the tournament" coach, not a "win in the tournament" coach.
