I really believe our next coach is going to be a guy that is going to fall under most of our radars. If true, it will be interesting to see how something like that plays on this board. No matter who we hire some people will love it and some will have questions. How many depends on who it is. I think the only real negative reaction you'll see is hiring some unknown assistant coach. I can't see that happening - it's too risky. Siena has to get as close to a slam dunk as they can for a head coach to rebuild the program after the program wrecker and to become once again a top mid-major with the A10 potentially looming as well. I do believe the guy is someone talked about on here and in the media. Remember this is 2013 not 1997 - all the stuff gets leaked eventually. Some true, some not.

Don Bassett, UA octogenarian assistant and former Catholic High coach with Brian Fruscio Albany Academy as the top assistant. MTS explodes. Print it. ;-)

No matter who they hire no one out here has any say in the matter. Life will go on, and they will be playing basketball next season with or without the few who dont like the choice.

Saints 22 is a cool dude and usually on target, ///////////but he is wrong on this one,.... the new coach is chosen.... he is currently the head coach at Florida Gulf Coast Andy Enfield. Darg got a connecting flight from BWI to Tampa and then a greyhound to FGC (they have no airl port). Charles Barkley said this is a great place to retire, but I don't think Enfiield is ready for that...
ok my next post will be more serious, but Saints 22 is a cool dude.

My two cents, but I don't think we are getting a Toole, Paulsen or Enfield....I have a feeling it will be a top assistant or a much smaller time head coach with maybe not the most recent "buzz" like some on here wish....I just don't think Siena is going to dish out the type of money you all think they are going to dish out...Fran got a lot of that money from guaranteed games that they played later with the good teams...Siena just doesn't have a big silho of cash to supplement salaries like that and they certainly aren't going to play a boat load of guarantee games with a first year head coach other than the ones they already have inked....now you can get a really disgruntled good head coach who just wants to get the hell out (ala Sydney Johnson), but other than that I don't Siena getting that hot off the press coach like everyone on here feels

Siena cannot afford to “screw up” this hire. You may not have noticed how much revenue Siena makes off its men’s basketball team. Not only via attendance and season tickets but corporate sponsorship. Siena is NOT going downgrade the program or deemphasize the importance of the men’s basketball team to the strategic plan- just not going to happen and to suggest otherwise is completely off base. While I doubt the new coach will start off with Fran type money ( 575K ) Siena will pay what it takes to get a successful coach They very well might hire someone off the radar… but I highly doubt they low ball it, this hire is way too critical to Siena and don’t forget we may be moving up- and that will affect the caliber of coaches that want to coach here

I am sorry if it came off that I said they would "low ball" a coach....that wasn't what I was suggesting, more of what I was trying to suggest is that those season tickets, corporate partnerships, etc. go to fund a lot more than just basketball (i.e. other scholarships for other sports, recruiting budgets for all sports, etc.). I know it is still a lot of money and when people on here bitch about home games being on TWC for every game I laugh because they wouldn't have corporate partnernships like they do if TWC wasn't airing every game (a strong selling point). What I am merely saying is that Siena's men's bball program funds "everything" in that AD and when your trying to stay competitive in every sport and keep up with the jones's that money spreads pretty thin quickly...That is why I suggest that the figures thrown out by a lot of people for this first time salary is not realistic. I could be very wrong and understand that and if there is a move upward in conferences then a different dynamic to this will change. Just like everyone else this is an outside looking in perspective and there could be a lot of money under bed matresses that I don't even know about...time will tell

Anything else? As long as we are shooting from the hip and do not have much to base our opinions on, I will play along. You assume the money that is collected is spread "thin"ly and evenly. It is not. The lions share of the money goes to the mens bb program, as it should.

I think Imnop22 makes some good points. I certainly don’t think Siena will max out a new hire. I do know Siena is well aware how important this hire is. In addition to getting a coach that can win – ability to energize the fan base will be important. Siena will need to get some fannies in the seats, excite the big money boosters and of course the more fannies in the seats the more corporate sponsors want to be associated with the product. It’s an exciting time to be a Siena fan, the future looks bright for the first time in 3 years- it’s like a cloud is clearing over the program
