Didnt we get a #2 seed (UMass?). They were GREAT that year. yes, with Calipari & Marcus Camby, they beat Saint Peters with Ted Fiore and Mike Frensley (ponytail).........but UMass did lose the East regional final later on to OK State............... UMass barely beat St Peter’s, game was up in the air till the end. SPC kept breaking the press by inbounding the ball -/2 to 2/3’s court pass for an easy layup. 🙂

SPC hung around...were within I think 5 with about 5 minutes left before UMASS pulled away. Big upset that day was 14 ODU led by Petey Sessoms (35 points) taking out 3 seeded Villanova (led by Kerry Kittles and Jason Lawson) in triple OT. If memory serves, Villanova had 2 or 3 chances to win on a last second shot, but couldn't get it done. Not in Albany, but on the same day, Weber St. took out Michigan St. (whom a lot of folks had in the Final 4). Also the first time I ever saw the Stanford Tree...Glorious! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItGoz9Hzk8MFun day! and Paul Hewitt was an assistant on the Villanova staff.............

I can't remember what I had for breakfast half the time. Very impressive! LOL I know what you are talking about...I'll be 50 this year and my memory is starting to become the proverbial Swiss Cheese. However, I have a great capacity for remembering the moments that made such an impression on me...first and only time my Dad, younger brother, and I ever went to the big dance. I was a Jr. at Siena at the time, scored some tix in the nosebleeds. We had such a great day! Reason I remember Weber St. over Michigan St. is because both my bro and I had Michigan St. in the Final 4...one of us had them winning it all. That team was led by Shawn Respert, who averaged north of 25 PPG. And Weber St. is just a funny name to say...for about 3 hours, as we got updates on the scoreboard (back b4 cell phones), we'd just look over at each other and exclaim "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ber State"!!!

So the Pitino era ends without an NCAA win. Was it worth it then?

So the Pitino era ends without an NCAA win. Was it worth it then? They won the MAAC twice in three years, so yeah?

Another year, another Iona loss in the NCAA tournament.

Iona gets blown out in the NCAA tournament.
Pitino looks to be gone to St. John’s.
Only Siena, Manhattan and St. Peter’s have won NCAA tournament games from the MAAC (non Dayton).
Couldn’t happen to a better program to lose their last FOUR games in our arena.

In a show of sportsmanship, I think all Siena posters should get on the Iona board and congratulate the Gaels on playing an outstanding first half of basketball against " one of the best teams in the country" in the words of their HOF coach...Perhaps the West Coast Gaels' win will be of some consolation to the loyal Gaels fans.

Great card, I’m psyched. Lamo Iona gets a home game. Now we get to see what Rick would have looked like with a full Pearl St arena pulling for him. UConn will dominate the attendance for this game. Yeah, dear lord it was like a UConn home game. Btw the Iona Board was an interesting & entertaining read this morning.
