I wouldn't want Siena to be added just for numbers. I would want Siena added if the two sides can mutually agree that the program is back on the upswing, that a quality coach is coming into place, and that the fundamentals of the program--its media market, its facilities, the quality of its academics, etc.--is worthy of inclusion. I don't have any real knowledge of how these things work, but I'm gonna venture a guess that not one of those things directly matters to this decision. I'm pretty sure it boils down to whats going to make everyone the most money.

The A10 and the New Big East are taking their time and weighing their options; meanwhile the MAAC panics and adds 2 schools that have never even won a game in the NCAA tournament

Listen I don’t blame the MAAC—Monmouth and Quinny fit perfect with SPC, Iona, Manhattan ,Niagara Canisius Iona, from a facilities attendance and resource POV- its Siena that doesn’t fit with that bunch

On campus facilities and overall facilities (weight room, sports medicine, etc.) I think Quinnipiac and Monmouth beat everyone in the MAAC. They have some big time sugar daddy's there and Quinnipiac is a growing University with Med. and law schools....I think it's the best the MAAC could do and I think those schools are on their way to put more money into their programs and I would watch out if I was the MAAC (Siena included).
This is just an objective observation, but Siena needs to find a way to increase student support....if I was Siena I would find a way to put the students closer to the sidelines and move back some of the season ticket holders (sorry for all you guys who purchase those tickets, but the atmosphere will be that much better and you will see the game just as good).

Things can always change but there's been too much smoke not to think Mason and Siena are headed to the A-10.
Hiring the right coach is incredibly important! By "right coach" I mean someone who can recruit at the level of a top A-10 program, develop his players and COACH, and as Siena's head coach he must also embrace living in the spotlight.

I’m thinking the only way Siena and Mason do not go is some sort of long term commitment from St Louis – and while that’s possible it’s not likely . Without Butler and Xavier, Slu is a outlier in the A10 and they will jump at opportunity to NBE. Most have them as a lock for 11th team; decision is who will be 12th Dayton or Richmond? At any rate should find out some time in next month or so if a move is on horizon – looks promising but until you get an official invite nothing written in stone
And how about the A10 6-0 so far in NCAA tournament

The A-10 would be fine at 12 after these coming 4 departures. If they expand further, it's because they already know more departures are forthcoming. Mostly likely it would be that St. Louis and Dayton are set to depart in 2014. Neither makes much geographical sense anymore with what suddenly has become a decidedly east coast league.

A10 teams have not fared so well in the third round. VCU, Butler, SLU, and Temple all done. The A10 Commish may be talking about expansion sooner than expected.

Looks like this is really going to happen. Speaking of numbers, I see 2 very convincing numbers - average # of attendance and basketball budget. Siena is above (although the last 2 years its declined some) the A10 average of 5,500 fans per game. Second, the basketball budget for Siena is right in line with the A10s member's budgets. Unlike the Big East where the average was ~$6M for just men's basketball (Siena is at ~$2M).

Andrew Santillo from the Troy Record is at Siena for something today. Just tweeted a picture inside the Arc lobby.
