At this point it will be a HUGE disappointment if we don't move up to the A-10, even if it takes an extra year or 2 to extricate ourselves from the MAAC. Given all the problems of the past 3 years, I'm really confident that the administration will make it happen.

Is 4Guys a wholly independent site are are they affiliated with Siena? I noticed they have a link off the official www.sienasaints.com site. So, if I'm reading this right, 4Guys is pushing officially sanctioned material. That means a couple of things: a) stuff is in the works - it may not happen for whatever reason but the admins are on board b) it is close enough that they're willing to talk about it publicly, though through a 3rd party c) This could be a lobbying effort I like what I'm seeing so far :-)

The best thing about the A10 for me is not the NCAA tournament potential, which could be years away (assuming we succeed) is that the quality of each game improves greatly. College basketball can be much more exciting than three days in March-- and playing St Joseph's VCU UMass Fordham etc on a nightly basis is a lot better than 20 games against Rider and Monmouth.

I agree on the college basketball is much more than 3 days in March. I use to get a kick out of some of the MAAC whacks that thought that . The MAAC has been good to Siena ( and Siena great for the MAAC) but it’s time to move on. Not only is the day in and day out schedule much better, it opens up a new level of recruiting for Siena, in short a better more consistent level of play. It will give the college much more visibility nationally and especially in some markets they want to be in like Philadelphia, Washington, Richmond where we currently have a low visibility and presence. So the move is a natural progression of Siena’s strategic plans
With Siena resources the Saints should be able to compete quite successfully on that level

You can bet that deal won't hold.

You can bet that deal won't hold. And that their new one will still be better than the MAAC's. Probably better than the CAA's too.

Siena has nobody but themselves to blame for that..Hiring the program wrecker really set the school back. All they can do now is make a good hire and start winning again

If you think any invites to join another conference is based on the last three seasons you're nuts.
Have you guys even considered the other sports at Siena, both mens and womens? They might not be able to compete and travel will be a lot more expensive. This is more than 3 bad seasons and the mens basketball team.

I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling reading that article. We are not a lock by any means for a move to the A10. That's why this next hire is so important. One more bad move by D'Arg and the administration and this program is hosed!

Actually if you think anyone gets invited to a conference because of the women’s swim team- you’re the one nuts- I’m fully aware on what criteria conferences use to invite new members. Siena has all the infrastructure in place to be a very successful program in the A10. We have the facilities, media base, and attendance better than most of the programs already in A10 Unfortunately the last 3 years makes Siena public relations nightmare for a conference that prides itself as the best conference outside BCS Had Siena “kept this rolling” like Mitch was hired to do—we wouldn’t be having this conversation , Siena would probably already be in A10 or would have been heavily considered for C7 At any rate—all Siena can control is themselves- make a good hire , start winning ( and stop making excuses like you have the last years papi) and conference affiliation will take care of itself

I wouldn't want Siena to be added just for numbers. I would want Siena added if the two sides can mutually agree that the program is back on the upswing, that a quality coach is coming into place, and that the fundamentals of the program--its media market, its facilities, the quality of its academics, etc.--is worthy of inclusion.
