At beginning of the year Fran's team looked to project well in the B-10 picture, but now trending toward losing conference record and some head scratching OOC losses, particularly one when Iowa was favored by 30+. Maybe Mulvey would consider jumping ship if this continues.

It certainly has to be worrisome for him that his minutes have not really increased from Freshman to Sophomore year.

Maybe in his 5TH year if he's not doing much by then (even if he leaves Iowa for somewhere else before then). Does he even GET a 5th year? I've lost track of these pandemic exceptions. |

He did not play in 20-21 and is on pace to play enough games this year that he would only have 3 years to play 2 seasons remaining. So only way he would have a 5th year is if he redshirted. |

The Iowa message board is filled with calls to replace Fran, crediting him for salvaging Iowa basketball but decrying that the program hasn't moved forward from respectability. Those fans are crazy. Iowa first and foremost is a football school and always will be. What Fran has done with that program is remarkable. Obviously there are challenges on this years team including the mental health issues that his son is dealing with and caused him to step away from the team. I'm sure all of this is a big stress for Fran and his family. Hopefully he can turn things around, but basketball is secondary to his son's mental health and wellbeing. |
