After months of speculation, looks like Xavier, Butler and Creighton join the big east July1..not sure on others and of course now with 10 members they could vote on new members for next year anytime before June 30th. At any rate A10 as of tomorrow A10 is down to 12 members with a few more shaky members, if insiders reports are right, Siena and Mason will eventually be offered invitations to the A10. But and this is a big but ... being at 12 the A10 can take their time now.........let the fun begin!! collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/19/report-new-big-east-to-announce-addition-of-butler-xavier-creighton-wednesday/

So it looks like the big east now has 5 "western" teams and 5 "eastern" teams. I think they will add one western team (st Lou or Dayton?) and one eastern team (Richmond, vcu?). Any chance Siena is still in the mix for this?

Richmond doesn't really give C7 much of a market ( their TV market is smaller than Albany's) their fan interest is less than us.. our post season record is similar ( Richmond is better) but we were one of the worst teams in college basketball last year - we dont have a coach.. not much in our favor.

What would be the hold-up for SLU and Dayton? Do they have different buyout/exit terms? I'm not getting why they couldn't/wouldn't join tomorrow.

Much of it probably has to do with the media market the other two possible additions come from. Any idea how the Albany region stacks up vs. St. Lou or Dayton?

St. Louis is a major city with professional sports, i.e. the Cardinals, etc. It is the 20th largest media market with a metro population of 2,210,800. Dayton is the 58th largest market with a metro population of 833,900. Albany picks up the rear as the 64th largest market with a metro population of 752,800.

Actually goes by TV market St Louis( 21st) is a major market- Siena is 57th Richmond 58th and Dayton 63rd
The hold up is balance, I think all sides want St Louis as 11th team., problem is if Big East takes Dayton as 12th team, there are 7 mid-western teams and only 5 in east. Richmond would fix that problem and make it 6 and 6- but Richmond plays in small arena and is basically second best program in their city. Richmond is a good program just not sure how much upside they have. And I think the big east thinks the same way. All I know is Fox is likely to put considerable pressure on Big east to get to 12 so one way or another they will and I think sooner rather than later . So I look for SLU and either Dayton or Richmond in Big East in next few months

How about Duquesne? I know they aren't a basketball powerhouse, but they are a Catholic University with an undergrad base of roughly 10,000 and bring the Pittsburgh media market with them.

Richmond has an arena that holds about 9,000. Attended Siena game there in the Jason McKinney years. They had 8,317 for their home game this year against Xavier.

Happy for those 3! They did it right and our Saints were on the same path but the Program Wrecker killed our chances at this jump in this round of re-alignment!
