Good & fairly accurate, though I don't believe we've only led the MAAC in attendance for only the last 5 years. Arena-wise, only Fairfield compares; attendance-wise, no one has ever been close.
DUMP THE MAAC!! Make it happen, Father Kevin!

Yes S77, I think we've led the MAAC every year not just the last 5.
As we talk about the A10 I keep thinking how much Fairfield must be kicking themselves. Didn't they get an invitation to the original Big East? I thought they did and said no thanks.
If Siena moves up I truly feel bad for a few of our comrade schools - Fairfield, Iona and Niagara the most. I'm praying we get the A10 offer (and our admins make it happen). The A10 gyms aren't that much bigger on average but the attendance I think is. The schools in the A10 all take hoop seriously. Although we've sucked lately I think we fit in better with those guys.

I agree, but I don't feel bad. We have basically been enhancing their athletic departments for 15 years now. The confererence tournament has done the best here by far, Siena has earned the most NCAA units and enhanced the profile of the conference, and our fans fill hundreds of seats accross the league during the regular season even though hardly any of their fans come to Albany. From what I understand we see very little of this revenue, meanwhile the Presidents of those schools have done everything in their power to strike us down, including taking their ball and moving it to where NO ONE can benefit. Good riddance, hopefully. Fairfield and Iona are on the short list for future A10 invites anyway from what I have read on the A10 board, and if our admin doesn't pull the trigger they may even get in before we do....

The MAAC has got plenty from Siena over the last 20 year or so. Siena has lead the MAAC in attendance every year we have been in conference, most years double or tripling the attendance of nearest program. Without Siena the MAAC tournament would never be in an all in one place. I think Siena has more NCAA/NIT wins than rest of conference combined. The MAAC has been good for us, but I do think it’s time to move on

The A10 gyms aren't that much bigger on average but the attendance I think is. Dayton has the A-10's biggest facility with a capacity slightly over 13,000. They have 10 facilities that seat 7,500 or more. Fordham's facility is the only one that seats less than 4,000. The median size of an A-10 arena is a capacity of 9,000. Contrast that with the MAAC, which has just 5 facilities that seat over 3,000, and just 2 over 4,000. Suffice it to say, it's inaccurate to state A10 gyms aren't much bigger. The MAAC has got plenty from Siena over the last 20 year or so. Siena has lead the MAAC in attendance every year we have been in conference, most years double or tripling the attendance of nearest program. Siena joined the MAAC in '89 and I believe LaSalle led the league in attendance until its departure in '92.

Overall, a good ranking. BUT, the author messed up with Marist. He has their last improvements in 2006. He doesn't mention the new chairback seats, the new large screen T.V with replays, etc. They would still stay in the same spot, around 5th, although I don't think FF should be ranked so high. Noone attends the large venue, making the big venue kinda moot.

Sienafan - I could swear I saw the numbers somewhere that showed LaSalle, Duquesne, Fordham, SJU all playing in under 7500 seat gyms. Keep in mind that if we go Dayton, X, SLU and Butler are out of the equation...as is Charlotte and Temple. You may be right but I don't think the median A10 gym is 9K after the other guys leave.
You're also correct about La Salle BUT we didn't move to the Knick/Pepsi/TUC until '94 or '95 right? From then on I believe we've outdrawn everyone (including the departed La Salle if you factor their numbers in for kicks).

Sienafan - I found it on Wikipedia Duquesne - 4400 Fordham - 3400 GW - 4300 La Salle - 4000 UMass - 9400 URI - 7600 Richmond - 9000 Bona - 5500 SJU - 4200 VCU - 7600 The mean is roughly 5900. They are definitely bigger but I'll stand by my position. That's still a big bit off of 9000. of course throw if you throw the TUC into the mix it is 6900 avg.
Let's go with we're both wrong :-)

Siena had the largest attendance BEFORE leaving the ARC. We had SRO for several years before the move to the Knick.
