4500 D1 players and how many Turkish? Has to be a reason for that, or maybe Carm outsmarted 350 other d1 coaches by going Turkish and ignoring the “high maintenance” US portal kids. Bobby C has some international contacts. They connected the dots to this kid. Again… we’ll see if it works out or not. Europe is recruited unevenly and that’s exacerbated by COVID limiting access. Of course it’s not a guarantee it will work… but acting as though it’s a guarantee it will fail is just as absurd. I’m old enough to remember when Bobby C told Carm to take Jackson Stormo, who couldn’t get off the bench at Pepperdine and looked like a chubby white big kid we didn’t need. That worked out pretty well. Let’s see if this does too. Stormo was a pretty well regarded HS kid in Cali, poorly utilized at Pepperdine. You’re talking Apple & Oranges the two aren’t remotely close.

Well, he can’t shoot, he can’t play PG, he doesn’t rebound, he’s an energy vampire and is injury prone. He didn’t get better in 2.5 years on campus. I defended him as long as I could… he’s a bad player. You can’t win anything with him playing real minutes. Lmao, Carp was more than adequate as a ball handler helping to get the ball up the floor. He struggled last year no doubt, he was injured most of the season. I wasn’t happy about his walk off but if you’re betting on Tekin’ because he’s Carm’s boy…. Aidan has 33 career turnovers to 25 assists… averaged less than 1 assist per game in his career… shoots 21% from 3 over two years…yet took shots at a higher rate when on the floor than anyone on the team despite being expressly told to stop shooting… and then basically quit on the team in the midst of a push for a title. When we tried to play him at point guard we nearly lost to St. Rose. As I’ve said… no guarantees Tekin works out, in fact he very well may be a bust. But we already know Aidan was one. Hope the kid finds his level in the NEC, though I think NE-10 might be better for him. I hope Tekin can be a solid backup PG, seeing as the coaching staff identified and prioritized him to fill that roll. Sometimes you miss (see Aidan) and sometimes you hit.

Verbal commits has Stormo having no other offers out of HS. When we signed him, you posted that it was “a real head-scratcher” and referred to him as a “plodder” who “could be found at any time of year. He became a 3 year starter at center for two top 3 MAAC teams and one TBD team, and a multi-time captain. Hopefully our friend Tekin shares Stormo’s skill at making OneIndian eat his words! 😉

Aidan Carpenter stunk. Therefore, I think we should stop recruiting athletic 6-5 kids from Connecticut. 😉 I don’t think Carp stunk. He had a bad year in part because of fit and injury. I’ll go as far as saying i bet a few will wish we had him next year if McCollumn goes down. Not a point guard. I liked him more than most but once teams figured out he was going right, he was unable to adjust. Poor shooter and not a point guard. Platek would be a better option should JM go down and the other kids aren’t up to it. (And no other guards are recruited)

Perhaps, the decision to play D1 basketball for international players has something to do with personal desire in addition to ability. I chose those countries because their recent history of high level talent.

I was just making a simple point by posting Darwiche’s video which looks equally if not better than Tekin’s - as Bill helped to substantiate. We all know how Darwiche turned out.
Tekin’s a reach & Carm publicly pissing on the portal wasn’t a smart move either. I can’t say I’m overly enthusiastic with recruiting effort to date. We’ve signed 1 decent player in Eley and a bunch of walk-ons who may or may not amount to anything useful this season. If this was Patsos he’d be crucified!
I’m on record saying that we’re thin at the pg spot if McCollum goes down. I’m not sure we have the proper depth.
End of story!

I think we're seeing frustration over some of our recruiting methods over the past few years. Understandable. Some of the moves and timing have been real head scratchers. With JM being a young PG, I was in favor of bringing in an older (Grad preferably) guy that could be a combo guard, and an established insurance policy for a player with a concussion history. Older fans have never seen a foreign kid (please save the Canada/Walton angle be successful at Siena. Not that theres been a lot, but the half dozen I can remember all were busts.....with that being said, I really need to see Tekin play in person before I give a genuine opinion on his game. I hope the kid is great, and anyone that regretted taking him (me included) will apologize profusely to the board!

I’m on record saying that we’re thin at the pg spot if McCollum goes down. I’m not sure we have the proper depth. End of story! And I’m making the point that Aidan looked amazing on tape and wound up being terrible. Michael Eley looks quite good on tape, he might be great or might suck. Tekin’s only a reach to you because he’s European. If he was 35th in the NERR rankings with no active offers like your random obsession with this Kodi kid, you’d think he’s great. Players’ highlight tapes tend to look quite good… hence the name “highlight”. If he’s terrible and we don’t have a backup PG because of it, then it’s a mistake. But again… you have literally zero sense of whether he’s going to be good enough or not because 1. You have no sense of the level of competition he has played against in Turkey 2. There aren’t lots of Turkish players to compare him to. But, for instance, Bobby Castagna worked for the Jazz for 20 years. The Jazz drafted Enes Kanter, from Turkey, with a top 3 pick 10 years ago. Perhaps that created some Turkish contacts that sent Tekin our way. Or perhaps researching draft and stash prospects that get scouted every year led a Bobby C connection to Tekin, and he passed along. Either way… he and Carm are both far more familiar with the kid’s game than you or I or anyone else is, they’ve actually watched full games, know the level he’s coming from, know what his strengths and weaknesses are, have talked to people close to the kid… etc.

Many people read these posts and form negative opinions let’s take a wait and see attitude. Our coaching staff sees something positive about this young man. Initially I read the posts and thought it must be a joke. Maybe a European player will spark this team like Walton and Karuanga did years ago.from Canada and Afric
I spoke with Coach Castagna. (Sp)At the postseason event. His positive attitude and willingness to communicate with fans was refreshing He is a valuable influence on Coach Carm
Stop the negativity, recent steps lead me to believe we are building a strong program.

I am concerned about pg too but this program of all programs doesn't need any negative potential injury energy. If you have any reverse Karma potion please use it.

As I noted earlier, 10 D1 Turkish players last year. Ten out of 4500, how did those 10 perform?
