VCU paid 250k to leave the CAA.
A million to leave the MAAC is insane.

Those costs certainly could be negotiated both exit fee and entry fees. But it wont be easy... doesn't mean it cant be done. But it will take some leadership

SOme schools are suing over the exit fees, calling them arbitrary and unenforceable. But, if SIena voted for it that would be a tough sell :-)

VCU paid 250k to leave the CAA. A million to leave the MAAC is insane. too many schools were leaving conferences on short notice. When you leavce on short notice schedule has to be juggled..merchandize has to be redone etc.. cost of leaving MAAC goes down to 500K if you give more than years notice. If Siena was going to go to A10 they wouldn't go till 2014-2015 season, so cost would be 500K

ok, we need to get to the bottom of this exit fee BS..........obviously it is there to protect the league from defections, but likely more so on the quick departures, perhaps within 1 yr and then the big dollar hit...........but no way are the schools in the MAAC going to be able to cough up that kind of coin, it is almost some schools entire hoop budget.............why would the presidents agree to that? ?..........could there be a smaller amount that is more negotiable on the table!!!!!!!!!!!

You can always negotiate...but the thing is the conference is going to want a good amount of what you signed...Presidents sign this...especially at the smaller MAAC schools to make sure they don't get hurt in this whole realignment mess...it is fair and if Siena has to pay 500,000 over 5 years with some help from the A10 and other monies so be it...this is why you plan for the future, but live in the present
