Paulsen, Toole, Becker, Pitino are my favorites of those mentioned so far.
We need a home run--I don't think Coen, Cliff Warren or Jimmy P. would do that for us.

Among that list Toole and Becker stick out to me. I think Paulsen would be a stretch to leave for us. This year may be his year to bolt for the big-time.

I haven't seen your pick yet... why you so worried about mine?at this point I'd be happy with anyone not named Mitch B... I'm sure Siena will do a good job as time goes on I'll evaluate all the candidates and come out with my top picks. Hope that helps Papi

Coen's slow down bruising style of play would drive you guys nuts. Surprised you would be in favor of him. Fact is he struggled for years at Northeastern before finally breaking through only when the CAA sucked. He's Dave Magarity redux. Warren has done little to impress me in his 8 seasons and has a losing record. Remember, a good coach can win anywhere. No thanks. Patsos took forever to turn Loyola around and has what, 3 wining seasons out of 9? I'll pass. The other 3 I'd sign for in a minute. Add Tommy Amaker and Seth Greenberg to that list and you've got a great candidate pool of 5 can't miss choices with a clear record of success.

Amaker won't leave Harvard but I agree he's a really good coach. Greenberg I would place a call too and see if he would be interested. Coen's not one of my top choices but he's better than Magarity. The CAA sucked this year but is usually (or was with VCU) a tough mid-major conference. Loyola was in the gutter for years when Patsos took over. Only the late Skip Prosser did anything else there and that was one hot weekend winning the tournament in Albany. Jimmy would not be my top choice but he can really recruit and coach and with Siena's resources could be really good. Loyola also has the toughest academic standards in the MAAC. Paulsen and Toole have to be the first two coaches called IMO. Also maybe a surprise BCS coach is let go. No matter who Siena hires some will be happy and some won't like it. The key is to get the RIGHT coach as D'Arg mentioned.

I actually think Reed is going to be a candidate for the Wake Forest position when it opens, as will Paulsen

I actually think Reed is going to be a candidate for the Wake Forest position when it opens, as will Paulsen They could be, but Wake can reach much higher than either of those guys, any successful A10, CAA or Missouri Valley coach they can poach...Now if Paulsen wins a game or two in NCAA tourney he may get higher looks. Paulsen wouldn't be a sexy pick for Wake..here is a list of some coaches they are targeting... some are prolly out of reach, but they have a boatload of money to throw around. Having said that Wake could get down to Paulsen or Reed, but they would need a lot of coaches to say no to a boatload of money. Where Siena could run into problems for a Paulsen or Reed, is if Wake poaches a coach at VCU, Butler, Xavier etc.. and those schools target either man - although those schools usually hire from within Mark Few- Gonzaga Head Coach Dave Rice- UNLV Head Coach Shaka Smart- Virginia Commonwealth Head Coach Brad Stevens- Butler Head Coach Buzz Williams- Marquette Head Coach Chris Mack- Xavier Head Coach Gregg Marshall- Wichita State Head Coach Steve Alford- New Mexico Head Coach

I agree with you...but not with this list....at least not Few, Smart, Stevens, Buzz Williams (who I believe makes the most in the Big East currently), or Mack.....Alford and Dave Rice I have no clue...I just no those other coaches have turned down much better jobs than Wake Forrest...for some reason I actually think Reed is a more enticing candidate for a BCS school than Paulsen....just water cooler talk

No doubt though they do have a lot of money to throw at candidates

Gregg Marshall-- my choice to replace Lanier. Guess he turned out alright huh! lol. I still like Warren more than most folks here-- his record the first year is a complete throw out and that puts him at .500 like most of the other candidates. 26 additional losses were guarantee games. I'm talking away games against the power 6 conferences, many of them top 25 schools like Miami and Florida State, Florida, etc. So, remove those from the schedule and he is 113 and 78, a career .591 coach. He plays uptempo, is known to be a good recruiter, has northeast and southeast ties for recruiting (not that I think this matters too much but it does to some people on here) and he has taken a place that hadn't made a post season tournament since the 1970s and won the regular season twice, a few NIT victories, and CBI and CIT appearances and victories along the way. He had a one year blip last season but has the team on the upswing again. He's an under the radar coach that could really be a gem for us. But, there are plenty of other choices out there that are great too--- I'm definitely excited about the possibilities!

Pitino would be like a deal with the devil. I feel like if he had any amount of success here it would be a national media frenzy (by MAAC standards) and would undoubtedly end with him being pulled up within 2 years.
That said... I'm strangely not opposed to it.
