A few quick questions for longer time Siena men’s basketball fans that stem from a conversation I had with a hockey fan.
* when Siena started playing D1 men’s basketball where did it play home games ?
*. Has Siena ever shared the Knickerbocker Arena/ Pepsi Arena/ Times Union Arena with a hockey team? If so did Siena have preference for home dates of did the arena give preference to the hockey team ?
*. When did hockey leave The Times Union Arena ?
thanks

Update - before the River Rays we had the Choppers (linked to grocery store somehow). After the River Rats moved in 2010 we have the Devils who left in 2017

The Bradley game in the 1994 NIT was played in Glenn's Fals Civic Center because of a conflict with a River Rats game.
Siena, ofcourse, won and headed down to MSG to play Villanova.

So that was post-season so hockey already had game scheduled. Not sure if Siena had priority over scheduling or not. I’m guessing there was a lot of cooperation. Siena had fewer games than hockey team so maybe a little more flexible but had to work with other MAAC teams. Probably a complex puzzle.

A Ricky Martin Concert took priority over an NIT game with Penn State that would have been played in Albany if the Knick schedule permitted it. The Knick generally bent over backwards to meet our needs - Georgia Tech on a Wed afternoon is the best example, IMO, of that cooperation...our fan base and arena were big time favorites with the then NIT...

Yeah. I'm sure they would do what they can for post-season but can't reschedule concerts and othe big events. They'll do what they can re: post-season - that's revenue for them.

Concert was probably scheduled for 6 months. NIT possible home game, 6 minutes.

Our Junior high basketball team from Chatham went up to to Armory to see them beat Mt.St Mary's in 1951 or 52. In the 55-56 season they lost to Providence who had an all american on their team. That team, Siena' had Weaver and Obermeir on it. They were good players but we didn't have the depth that Providence had. We also played Villinova that year I think. The next year or the year after, they went Div. 2.

played games at the ARC at the beginning of D1-1976 and moved to the Knickerbocker arena (then Pepsi then TUC) in 1990. I cheered for Siena at the ARC and it was LOUD and rowdy with the TeePee Rowdies :)but I so much prefer the big time atmosphere of the TUC

Went to games as a kid with my dad at the ARC, right through my time as a Siena student and as a Tee Pee Rowdie. Wish the students could repeat the intensity and craziness of the Rowdies at the TUC, but like Legacy, I like the big time feel of the TUC.

My Dad was in the first graduating class (‘41) and the first games were at Gibbons Hall. I recall him saying he was there at an afternoon game when Pearl Harbor happened. We didn’t have priority at the beginning at the arena. We were only playing some of our games there. I’m assuming when we became full time downtown things changed.
