Consider the possibility this is all a hoax Might be a hoax that he’ll play for Siena but it’s not a hoax that he is currently a Siena student.

So he's gonna pay the $50K himself to attend Siena..... without playing basketball? Im still waiting for the journalists that have access to Carm out there to take over and solve this mystery.

All I know is that he’s a student at Siena. I would assume if he wants to play BBall he only had that one option - play for Siena.

Why not? That's the norm these days.

Honestly, I know most will disagree with me here but I think the best outcome would be him redshirting a year and playing next year. With as many talented guards/wings as we currently have and with as much as has been made about the chemistry and camaraderie that developed over the summer, I fear that adding a starting caliber player this late in the game would have a serious impact on the team cohesiveness. You can’t tell me that competitive athletes who were expecting to play a certain amount won’t care about their PT getting significantly cut because of a late addition with whom no connection exists. Let him replace Hopkins/Gaines next year after a year of practicing and gelling with the team.

I have some concerns how this late addition would affect chemistry, player satisfaction/expectation, etc, but I have even more of a doubt that a 22 yo kid who graduated from UNC would want to sit a year. If that's even possible as a grad student.

We really have no idea what we have, every year same old story, to deep here, to deep there & few games into the season everyone is screaming we lack talent or we’ve had injuries. It’s never too late to add a shooter. Especially a kid that was getting minutes in the ACC. I doubt Platek came to Siena to spend 2 years. I’m guessing it’s paperwork related.

There is absolutely no way someone who played significant minutes at UNC transfers to Siena and sits a year so he doesn’t bruise other players egos and take away their playing time. If you watched this kid play at all at UNC you would see he is the type of player that will do whatever a team needs to do to win and isn’t about his playing time, stats and ego. Plus, with the challenges/questions we have this year why on earth would Carm want him sitting out. I don’t know why this hasn’t been announced yet, but I’ll bet anything it isn’t because he is going to redshirt.

Platek article just dropped in the Times Union. Looks like Mark was listening.
He's enrolled and waiting for waiver to play. Mark said he reached out to both Carm and Andrew, but was unsuccessful.
Mystery solved.

I just read the article HJ referenced. It says the hold up is due to a need for a waiver partly related to the number of classes he took his last semester at North Carolina. As long as he has his degree in hand, I don't see why a waiver is needed for a graduate due to the number of classes taken. That's a new one.

He may have zero desire to redshirt, I have no idea. Is his Masters program 1 year or 2 years? If it’s 2 years, is he planning on completing both? If yes, and he plays this year, wouldn’t he have to pay for next year? If he redshirts this year, he still plays one of his two years in his grad program at Siena and does not play the other year….just with the redshirt option, he has both years paid for. Seems like it should AT LEAST be a consideration, no? Again, that’s all assuming it’s a 2-year program and he plans to stay for both years.

I can’t see why the NCAA wouldn’t allow him to play this year for Siena.
—Has one more year of eligibility because of pandemic as all players did who played last year
— Graduated from UNC and grads are automatically eligible
— Never transferred before and new rule is every player can move once without sitting
— Accepted into Siena already
Hopefully the NCAA gives him the green light and this isn’t someone we’re waiting until November for.
