He won’t do any time away from the bench! NCAA won’t punish Iona IMO. Well, agree that Iona will not be and should not be punished. Disagree as to Pitino, he will get a multi-game suspension and possibly a show cause order. Iona will be dealing with this for a while to come. No way Pitino skates without punishment given his history including having to give back a national championship. Initially I thought a show cause was in order or at least a possibility but now it looks like LVille will really take the hit and Ricky will probably get 1/2 season / 15 game vacation.

I think this sums it up pretty good and is how I've felt from the beginning. Iona (or Siena had Pitino wound up here) were never going to be a destination school for a guy like Pitino regardless of what he might claim. Whoever got him was going to feel the brunt of the NCAA with at least a suspension followed by a year maybe two of success and a jump to a bigger program. Whether or not that sequence of events is worth it will be heavily dependent on the buyout when he inevitably jumps. Problem is Iona has given up a lot of their leverage on that negotiation.

Really well done article. I still think Pitino is going to get hammered, not for this instance necessarily but for the repeated issues. He is everything wrong with major college sports and Iona's decision to hire him is a really bad look for what's supposed to be an academic institution. Who'd of ever thought the guy having sex with an assistants wife in an Italian restaurant would go on to hire strippers for dorm parties and then, while already on probation and stripped of a national championship, work with a sneaker company to funnel $$$ to a potential recruit?

Maybe he has Presidential aspirations...
