Rick Pitino in the MAAC - wow! great for Iona, the MAAC and even our Saints because it will definitely raise the recruiting bar and the won’t lay their typical preseason egg with him at the helm. But yeah he will likely leave a big fat mess in his rear view within just a few years.

I think it is a great for the maac and I think it will help the recruiting of all programs. I also think it will help with scheduling as the profile of the maac just greatly increased.

Can we consolidate all these separate threads Agreed, board members are getting lazy. Look before you post! Make sure you are posting in the correct section and look for an existing thread first.

Iona is facing a massive rebuild. Pitino will get good players but he's not getting ACC/Big 10 recruits to Iona.
He'll recruit well at an A10 type of level but guess what Siena is already recruiting at that level now and Iona wasn't that long ago with Cluess/Grasso.
We struggled vs. Cluess/Grasso because for 8 years we had bad head coaches. That has changed.

Good for the MAAC. Bad for Siena... for 1-2 years. Why is it bad for siena? Because pitino will bring in recruits that should be at the top of the MAAC. If he has success within a year or two he will leave for a major job, but slick Rick isn’t at Iona to run a clean program for 10 years to repair his image. He’s a shark and will have Iona stacked. See Larry brown (Kansas, smu etc. ) sharks are sharks.

I embrace the competition and will laugh when he leaves them in a mess!!

Just reported Pitino will take over for clues stepping down for health reasons. Clues was iconic at iona winning 5 maac titles in 10 seasons as the skipper. A great run. Pitino will give the league some needed juice and credibility going forward.

Seriously how long is slick Rick going to be happy stalking the coaches box of such palaces as Yanitelli, Gallagher and Koessler?
Have to think first chance he gets he’s bailing. I know he’s older but his age is only exceeded by his ego.
I don’t buy for a second the “what better place to end his career then at a small catholic institution” schtick!
He’s saying all the right things but seriously he’a only got one thing on his mind and that’s Rick!

He wins 20+ games and can jump to a lower tier team in a power 6 conference. He takes Iona further than that and mid tier jobs in those leagues open up.

The old adage of a rising tide lifts all boats applies but only if the bottom tiered schools put an effort into improving their programs. I’m Siena first. MAAC second (like everyone else here). Let’s get back to a consistent 11-13 seed for the MAAC.

Nolesaint, I agree- I think it will raise the level of the MAAC - all teams will be forced to recruit at a higher level to compete and it will help teams like Siena that are already solid- will raise the rankings of the MAAC, no doubt. Can you imagine the crowd at the TUC when Pitino comes to town? And- I know the history, but he also has a point to make, that he can win within the rules. I think he will be extra careful at Iona, and the Saints and the Gaels will be the top two teams in the MAAC next year, this guarantees that!

It would be great if two teams make the dance and win a game or two. Even better if pitino can help the maac move to a pay for performance model.

Lol lol lol speaks volumes of the Siena front office Don’t understand. Are you saying you’d rather have Rick Pitino as the Siena coach than Carm?
