Whatever dreams Siena faithful have of the Saints returning to formal glory have become very complicated.Just thinking we could have had him a couple of yrs. ago.I'm deflated!GO SAINTS!! I asked this question in another thread on this topic, and I’ll ask you, too........are you saying you’d rather have Rick Pitino as the Siena coach than Carm?

There’s like three similar post created earlier in the other Sienahoops topics: in the MAAC and NCAA thread.

It's a great conversation. Wasn't in the first 2 pages of our board as a title topic. No need to apologize. Looks like Tony or someone already move it to the MAAC and NCAA topic section. From here you’ll be able to see/read the three other titles in same subject. “Cluess is done” “Pitino to Iona” “Iona hires pitino” Another “Iona hires Pitino, really” I guess there’s 4 and your’s makes it 5.

Iona is facing a massive rebuild. Pitino will get good players but he's not getting ACC/Big 10 recruits to Iona. He'll recruit well at an A10 type of level but guess what Siena is already recruiting at that level now and Iona wasn't that long ago with Cluess/Grasso. We struggled vs. Cluess/Grasso because for 8 years we had bad head coaches. That has changed. Don’t kid yourself Mike he & Iowna JC will haul in 4 star ball players who still can’t spell their own name but can BALL.

How many threads on a single topic do we need to scroll through... this might be a record for this board ... in a nutshell Pitino with a target on his back will be a big incentive for the other 10 MAAC teams

“Per source: Rick Pitino signed a 5-year deal with slightly less per year than Tim Cluess' roughly $1.1 million per year.” -@lohudinsider

I see some Siena fans are panicking- NO need. No doubt Pitino will win at Iona, but his presence in MAAC will elevate entire conference. Personally I welcome Pitino to MAAC- while I expect him to win at Iona, this is far from a slam dunk. Look no further than Gonzaga in West Coast conf. over last 20 years while Zags have dominated did you know St Mary's has 14 -20 win seasons, 7 NCAA trips including a elite 8 appearance. A rising tide lifts all boats. I wouldnt trade the next 3 to 5 years with Iona at all. Good luck to Pitino and Iona www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Iona-men-s-basketball-hires-Rick-Pitino-15131736.php

Heard the Iona board wont let posters say anything bad about their new coach. IF they do, they're banned. Wow, so the denial begins. Our guy is wonderful

Here’s my take on Pitino. Sure he’s going to get a ton of names to recruit from. He can only fill so many scholarships and as is true with all kids these days they want to play immediately. So who is best in line to grab kids that want to play against him? Siena. We just won the regular season have the largest fan base and will probably have some openings. I know it’s Iona grabbing the headlines but this can be a win for the MAAC overall.

Its going to be fun-- Siena and Iona haven't been good at same time since the late 90's..so that alone should be fun-- I expect Siena to be minimum top 100 type team next year-- and depending on what happens with a few roster spots maybe better- Pitino is starting from scratch- Iona has nothing returning but a few role players off a team that has struggled to break into top 200 the last 2 years- so Pitino has his work cut out for him. I know Siena will be good next year. Pitino may have some NCAA trouble, been out of AAU circuit a few years, how much will the bus ride to Rider/ Monmouth affect a 68 year old multi millionaire. Should be fun, hope Pitino makes it work at Iona- can only help Siena and hopefully the entire MAAC
