What an ugly game the other night for both the Girard kid and the the whole Syracuse team.
What I saw was not just losing but a mentality of selfishness from the upperclassmen that I do not think will change anytime soon with such a young team that could very well struggle this year unless there are drastic changes.
Boeheim has long overstayed in his relevance to today's game. Yes he has fared somewhat well in some years in March Madness but way too many times their system leads to ho-hum basketball and many losses in always being a bubble team.
Why do I bring up Syracuse basketball on the Siena board?
I don't think Girard has the teammates to allow him to be a scorer, at least not this year and that is what the kid is best at. Ya he might get his 8 to 10 points a game but I dont think he has the ability in Boeheim's system to create his own shot. You can see that the scouting report is out not to help out if your guarding Girard. They certainly did not run anything for him.
Finally I dont believe he has one or the other of the typical size or quickness or honestly, the desire to be an effective defender on the 3 man top of that zone.
I do think he has a strong family who wants to be able to see him play. I do think that Carm will show the region and beyond this year that Siena is again relevant. I do think Girard could be very successful at this mid major level.
Under a different system I think he could be good at the Power 5 level, just not at Syracuse.
And since that is basically the only respected Power 5 program within earshot of Glens Falls NY my best guess is that he will be tired of the 'Cuse come April and will be donning a Siena practice uniform next year and then playing as a Saint for the 3 years after that.

Keep dreaming. Only way the kid winds up at Siena is after two years of not panning out at Syracuse and all the high major interest dries up. If he wants to play somewhere else he'll go to BC or Penn State, he's not going midmajor as long as he can play at a higher level.

I have to agree the thought of JGIII at Siena at some point is not as far fetched as it may sound. Especially with Pickett garnering national attention while here and the Carm factor. Sometimes it’s best to be the big fish in a small pond.
I could see this in year 3 if Syracuse isn’t working out.

Whose minutes would he get? JG doesn't seem to fit the Carm mold either.

It's one game. Boeheim is one of the best coaches in all of college basketball, lol.

I started a thread on this topic in the NCAA/MAAC category. Without question the worst collection of talent Boeheim has ever assembled at Syracuse. Girard will have a tough time at the ACC level, so will the Orange. I mean their best player is a transfer from East Carolina??! The fans look at Girard as the next huge star of the program (G-MAC )...they’re in for a big disappointment. He needs talent around him to even get his shot off. It’s tough going from what he was allowed to do at GF for 6 under his uncle to the spotlight at SU. If he ever wants that “spotlight” again where he might actually be able to average 15-20ppg, Siena would be a good spot for him and his family. Won’t happen unless the SU experiment is a total failure. Which it very well could be. I’m rooting for the kid, but he’s got long odds against him at the ACC level.

HJ expresses my thoughts when I started this post. I believe he will have greater exposure here. I still question what he can do at the level he as at. I certainly hope I'm wrong, but think he would do well ay Siena.

At least don’t think he will excel there, may be role player. A lot depends on where SU goes and how long Boeheim stays. If they don’t keep up in ACC he could find a spot and do OK. If they up their talent and compete there, then he could be on the outs, at best just a role shooter off the bench. With the Dome and 30K/game as a selling point, I think they will be able to get the talent. But Syr in winter is a tough sell over almost anyplace down south. That’s been the case for years, but tide could be shifting. Again, a lot depends on how long Boeheim stays and how good his successor will be.

1 game into Girard"s career kind of tough to tell how he does? Boeheim is a hall of fame coach- but he is 74 years old- have to wonder if his age is catching up with him? Has to be hard to recruit at that age- how can you tell a recruit you'll be there all 4 of his years at that age?
