Be just our luck our GF tax dollars going to support Albany's athletics. Sounds like double taxation to me.

It's great to see Siena in the "Catholic 12" discussion. The A-10 may be the more realistic option. I hope the administration is looking at both. The MAAC isn't working out.
NanoCollege reports directly to the SUNY chancellor. It's only "sort of" part of UAlbany. It might be funding roundabouts and flyovers, but it's not funding anyone's athletics.

I was suggesting that Global Foundaries might be more inclined to support UA over Siena based on UA's "connection" to the Nano College. I never was suggesting that the Nano college would support athletics.

I think I know where you're heading, but you realize that the Nano College and Global are 2 totally distinct separate entities? Still may be more connection to UA because of all the state tax breaks and the 'scientific' link.
That being said, we can dream and hope that a major, international corporation would see the benefit in having their name associated to a major college conference with a national TV conf. But then again, I'm not in advertising.

This being based on both the Nano College and GF having a common interest in nano technology not any formal business connection.

Same stuff - just a local guy who rarely talks Siena looking to get some airtime.
Realistic or not, on the surface, this is very appealing. I just don't want to be the punching bag for those heavyweights.

This may not be as "out there" as one would think. From a travel perspective 'Nova & Gtown are no worse than Loyola. SHU, SJU, PC are all "local". If they do go with an East/West division thing I think our travel would be only slightly more expensive. Additionally, if the "strategic plan" was even remotely serious then the national exposure would be worth every dime. How much would Siena need to spend on advertising to get this kind of coverage? 10's of millions. Please ditch the "I am Siena" campaign. Rip off the Fairfield 30 seconds/4-years campaign - it is sooo much better.
As for us being a punching bag: It could happen but look what Cooley has done so far at PC. They are very equivalent to Siena. We just need a good coach. Keep in mind too that the C7/12 league won't start for 2+ years due to technicalities of the split with the Big East. That gives us time to a) get a new coach and b) recruit C7 caliber players. That's not bad. If we ever had a shot this is it!

I just don't want to be the punching bag for those heavyweights. Siena competed with Big East teams when they were a good MAAC team. Put them on more equal footing and there is no reason they can't compete.

I agree -- it all comes down to commitment though. Just like Marist can't compete in the maac on an nec budget, siena won't be able to compete with the catholic7 on a maac budget.

the schenectady gazette article and a comment from D'Argenio have me a bit offended...
"D’Argenio said he’s aware of criticism and complaints from fans, but believes that the majority of Siena supporters will continue to maintain a positive view of the men’s basketball program. “You get the same group of people that hammer it home, and another group that understands the history of the program and write emails and letters,” he said. “You’ll see them at games, and they’ll talk to you, they’re willing to sign their name to a thought, which I appreciate. The first group that likes to tweet is a much smaller one.”
I have both tweeted (as some of you follow me @sienasaintsfan) and have emailed back and forth with D'Arg among others at the college. The platform of which we vent our thoughts and frustrations doesnt diminish its importance.
