With a lengthy extension and no seemingly negatives that is good news. Also with the TU having some NCAA t. games, it has to have some help in the recruiting effort. If Siena has a better year than last, I think they will ave between 7 and 8 thousand.

Renovations to the TUC are a plus. Siena needs to improve the transporting students to the arena.

Renovations to the TUC are a plus. Siena needs to improve the transporting students to the arena. Hard to improve transportation when they offer free rides both ways. They just don’t show up. Part of the problem is they stick them in the general seat. Need to find a way to get them down on the floor and create that true “student section”

Since an on campus area will never happen, I always wanted the TU configuration to push the court all the way to one end with seating sections being a U around the court. The open end would then have a wall of bleachers for students erected that goes almost straight up. This would eliminate as much dead space around the court as possible, put fans much closer to the court, and create a wall of students and band members that should get rowdier when grouped together that close to the action. Give student tickets away to local high schools during semester breaks. Season ticket holders would move a section or two to stay at the same location relative to midcourt. No room for tables on one end of the court (hooray) and no tarping the upper bowl. Sections behind the student bleacher wall wouldn’t be sold so the effect would be the same. Make it happen. And ppl at that end are further from the court. They have to be able to give up the tables. Stop pandering to a few high paying customers and replace it with MORE fans. I think the money will equal out with more fans and a better atmosphere.

Ultimately, the problem is the configuration of the current seating in the TUC. This arena was designed for hockey as we all know (yes, I know the Patroons made a run there when it was the Knick).
When I was in Tampa Bay for the 2008 NCAA tournament, the Tampa Bay arena in the end zones was able to get seats from the top of the section to the floor. Currently, in our configuration, that cannot be done- Notice the railing in the end zones. Makes fans feel isolated, which I've heard some students complain about the TUC.
If somehow during the next renovation phase, remove the railing and extend to the floor, that will help students feel more connected with the team. While this concept is at a major level, we have got to stop treating Albany as small ball per se.
Anyone else think I'm far fetched with this idea? A different topic: What do we think of sitting on the side of the TUC- is it close enough for fans?
I'm going to be curious what out of towners think of the TUC when we have the mens tournament next year.

I think Siena winning games, providing a more enjoyable brand of play (win or lose) coupled with less to no players’ drama and a good coaching staff will lead to more fans in the arena (students & non-students) more so than an arena configuration. JMO

There are still a lot of seats to be sold before any renovation funds would be spent ... when I went to Siena it had 2200 men and drinking age was 18 - we made it the Armory w no bus provided ... today there are 3200 students but more then half are women ... in addition there are a lot more activities available on campus to compete with ... sign of the times .... although a consistently winning team might change things 😉

On the topic of student attendance, I graduated in 2013 and the free buses were more trouble then they were worth. The school sends a bus from campus every 15 minutes up until game time, so getting to the game is usually fine. Getting home is a disaster though when a large amount of students go to the game. You have 200+ students all leaving at the same time, and they usually only have around 3 buses parked outside ready to go, one of which is designated for the band. This leads to an all out war to get on the buses, or wait for them to drop off and come back, which is usually 20 minutes.
I'm not sure what the solution is, but I get why students don't attend regularly.

Having 10% or less of the student body attend games is something that would have been unheard of when most of us were in college and having to wait only 20 minutes for a ride back to campus would have been a good thing back then. ;-) but we live in the world of instant gratification so this is to be expected.

Winning solves most attendance problems. I would think those over 21 (or with good IDs ;-) wouldn't mind celebrating after the game and taking an Uber back. That said, the free/cheap student seats are pretty crappy but unlike the Dean Dome, the TUC doesn't check tix so the kids are mostly free to move about the arena.
