I never said that. I think Carm has shown to be a very good recruiter. I just like that he utilizes all 13 scholarships in a rebuilding situation with only one surefire star.

You’re awfully defensive - I never said that YOU said that, but recruiting is building a team. And apparently Tobin is better at building a team. Now we’ll see what he can do with that better, more complete team.

LOL If using 13 scholarships, as opposed to 10, makes him better at "building" a team, then you'd finally be correct.

Carm’s elite skill is evaluating. Always has been. The number of crowds we’ve gone into for kids is fairly limited. We do it from time to time and have a decent hit rate when we go all-in, but the successful hits Carm has had (really both as transfers and freshmen) have been kids people didn’t really want and us finding the diamond.
Tobin has signed more players in the last two years between FDU and Iona than any coach in America. He’s certainly capable of filling spots. We’ll see how this group pans out without the insulation of bringing STAC guys, but I have no doubt they’ll be competitive and well-coached.
End of the day: We’ll be good if Carm’s hit rate stays high and some group of Emejuru, Smith, and Evbagharu hit just like the Stormo’s, Rogers’, Eley’s, McCollum’s, King’s and Pickett’s did. That’s our bread and butter. So far he’s been good enough at it to outrun some other miscues, at least enough to have a winning team every year and win two league titles. If it falls off, he’s in deep trouble. If he fixes stuff, he might break through the way everyone on the board wants him to.

Let’s pump the breaks outside of the roster with Camper and Pickett we’re a ~500 club. Come crunch/tournament time we cave. If we’re all content with a top 1/3 finish great, but I think most fans want a bit more. We’re on a decade plus long drought. This program is stagnating. Let’s be honest… Short bench (open scholarship) roster’s haven’t been kind.

We’ve been that despite the complaints about everything else exactly because we get kids that no one else wants and turn them into something pretty good. “Short bench rosters haven’t been kind” except year 1, when we won 10 straight to finish the year with no real bench.

He's a better recruiter. Let's see what he does in season with the superior roster. I don't think it's a superior roster per se, but if you take 12 shots and hit more than half and add in Oz, you've got a rotation and a sprinkle of depth at least.

Pickett and Camper covered a multitude of sins. Carm was 680 win Pct in yrs 1&2 with the two studs. Unfortunately they’re gone. The reality is since they departed we’re a ~500 club two years running. Big year vs TA&Iona. This year will be important & will likely indicate our true trajectory. Will Iona continue their dominance? It’ll be a tough sell to fans if we can’t get over the Iona hurdle in year 5 of Carm’s tenure (especially with Slick gone & a new coach in rebuild mode in New Ro). Stay tuned.

First two years were great. Last two years not very good. If that were switched around, there'd be no concerns. But last 2 years only 3 games over .500 and last 3 years, 1st round MAAC tourney exits losing to much lower seeds. We're going the wrong way. Now we enter this year with only 10 players, and the youngest D-1 team in the country. One proven scorer, and some young talent that we desperately need to play like juniors. Cant see how anyone has us in the upperhalf of the league at this point. SD being eligible would help tremendously, but I dont see it happening.

Of course this is all speculation at this point, but on paper Saints look to be a .500 team at best. I hope they prove most of us who doubt them wrong. Unfortunately, I see this team struggling to compete and get W's. Will be interesting to see where the team is at mid-season this year. I believe in Carm, but as a number of you have said, the team is trending the wrong direction since Camper and Pickett moved on. Hopefully Eley takes a a big step his soph year and the rest of the team follows.

IF, and this is a big IF, this group all comes back next year, Id be very optimistic. SD eligible and hungry, Eley a rising junior/All-MAAC kid, Gribben and Tekin both getting 30 min a game the previous year, and the 4 talented freshman growing into contributing sophomores.
'24-'25 would be exciting, but we all know retaining an entire roster is almost impossible in todays college basketball landscape.

And Carm is still looking for another player.
