I think I'd rather Carm went out and got a serviceable combo guard now, and only recruited 1 big and a PG instead of 2 bigs and a 1 PG in 2020.
I still don't feel comfortable with the back court depth. I want to play both Pickett and Carey for 38 minutes right now.

It seems to me like the MAAC keeps passing on Jo Jo Anderson. I wonder if you go to a kid like that and say, hey kid you're really short, here's a 1 year scholarship to prove yourself... If it doesn't work out, you just got a free year of college. Low risk backup.
Same goes for Brian Moore.

Carm seems more set on guards than you. He’s not going to reach for a kid he doesn’t like. Webster was good but he was seen as a luxury, not a necessity.
I don’t know if he is correct or not (it largely depends on his early lineup plans). If he is going to push Harris down to the 2 at times, or Luke down to the 3, or Manny down to the 2/3, or Burns to the 4, those all take away traditional ballhandling minutes from Hein (who I’d also imagine Carm expects to get minutes).

I would say that in some cases, having Hein being a quality defender would work fine as long as we have 4 solid offensive players on the floor. Pickett would probably draw the double team and it would lead to a potential iso situation with Carey or Burns, so it's not a total offensive loss. Not as ideal as having another shooter who can defend, but for 10 or so mpg it would be fine. Pickett's double will probably come from Hein's man and make things harder. At least when Smithen attempted to score, he usually did it extremely efficiently...and he handled the ball better. Hein likely won't be so lucky. He historically takes more shots than points whereas Smithen had the highest points per shot on the team. It's likely gonna hurt. We really needed another guard. Unlike Carm's hopes, I think Carey is gonna have to back up Pickett...and thus guys like Ratliff soar in importance out on the wing...as more wing minutes open up. I have more faith in Ratliff taking a sophomore jump than in Hein taking a graduate jump. I was more talking about it being a 1-on-1 situation with defenders sticking to Pickett. I would argue that if Carey is half as athletic as has been said, there's only a couple of guards in the league that he couldn't drive past. It's pretty evident that Carm is looking to draw more fouls, so I feel like setting up your more athletic drivers (Carey, Harris, Camper) in a situation like this is going to happen a good amount. It won't always work, but it would be enough.

If we are playing a walk on significant minutes we have mucho problems. I know you dont like Hein ( and you're right he hasn't much offense) But the kid is more than likely going to start the year getting 15 min a game-- so I hope he holds the fort down. Carm seems to have a lot of confidence in him. I like his experience, like the fact he puts a lot of effort into his defense, and is a team first type player. He kind of reminds me of a Kyle Downey type guy ( I know he looks nothing like him) But Kyle had pretty lousy stats his first 2 or 3 years and was still able to play 15 min a game on some of Fran's greats teams. Need Matt to come in- play good D, dont turn the ball over and hit open shots( that's the part I worry about) As for Darwhice-- this is make or break year for him- he was thrown to wolves last year and played almost entire year with injuries- had zero time to adjust to American game. Another kid I'm not expecting much from- but will keep an open mind on him Hey, Hein for 10 mpg might be ok if he's defending well and not shooting. He just probably won't allow us to extend leads. He'll probably just be more stopgap type guy until the starters come back in. Like I said before, he may shoot like Mo White but he doesn't shoot as often as Mo White...so that's good. But teams will likely play off him even more than Smithen and that won't help things either. And he's likely not as athletic nor overall impactful on D as Smithen was so...there's only so much we'll probably get from him. Bottomline, he'll probably hurt us overall when he's out there. His +/- and ortg vs. drtg have been historically net negatives. Hopefully, he just doesn't hurt us so much that it costs us the game. Unfortunately we only have two players we can be positive teams are going to cover outside the 3 point line in Jalen and Sloan. Carey will hopefully be a third but haven't seen enough of his game to know if he will be fine with the transition to the deeper 3 point line. So teams laying off Heim and daring him to shoot might not be much different than they are going to play Camper, Ratliff, and Darwiche and even Harris until he proves himself.

The way Mahala keeps taking it to the rim, I kinda want to see him shoot.

Fairly minor, but the last two days the SienaMBB Instagram page has had a lot of short video content on its story of the guys working out both on the court and in the weight room. Not much you can take away from them, but fun to see a little extra content this time of year. www.pictame.com/user/sienambb/stories/2062049543It's been nice to check in occasionally for more video clips, but what's up with the videos like the one posted today? It looks like it was shot during the California earthquake, and doesn't show anything of interest.

Mostly just a way people show they are doing stuff without it being a still photo. I believe DOBO Greg Fahey, who has well over 10k followers on his personal Instagram, has been putting these up, so he must know what he's doing.

Tnx, since I know nothing about Instagram. I loved the videos that were up when the above link was first posted, and hope there will be more good ones.

Legitimately happy that they have someone with some skills running their instagram. I know you guys like your media articles and interviews, but social media acclaim is far more important these days.

Some fun stuff on there (mostly stories so they are gone now) over the past few days. Most students are home for the weekend because of Columbus Day, but the guys are there and have been “checking in” for every workout. Don, Camper, Harris, King, and a few others have posted midnight workouts the last two nights!
Eye on the prize.
